ENGIE has an immediate opening for a water treatment plant operator.  Responsible for the operation of a Grade IV State of Iowa surface water treatment plant at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.

 

Iowa:

ENGIE at the University of Iowa employs over 100 energy professionals in the trades, technical specialties, engineering, management and support to operate the utility production and distribution systems, driving toward greater use of renewable and sustainable fuels.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Serves on a permanent or rotating shift, performs operations and oversees projects as assigned for the proper operational control, maintenance, efficiency of water treatment plant operation and equipment and covers vacant shifts on an as-needed basis
  • Performs regular water sampling and testing procedures
  • Prepares operational and other written and verbal reports
  • Keeps inventory of chemical usages and dosages
  • Conducts comprehensive analysis of all treatment processes
  • Instructs and trains other operators in plant procedures and operations as directed; performs laboratory analyses; compiles and submits reports of operations
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures
  • Inspects mechanical failures and schedules work orders
  • Ensures safe operating conditions
  • Analyze, adjust and correct all phases of the water treatment process in an efficient and safe manner
  • Cleans plants and grounds

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by courses in mathematics, science and water treatment.
  • Five (5) years of progressive work experience in the operation of water treatment plants.
  • Must possess a valid State of Iowa driver's license
  • State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources Class 2 Water Treatment certification required
  • Advanced knowledge of the occupational hazards to employees' health and individual safety involved at the plant.
  • Advanced knowledge of remote telemetry systems as they apply to plant operations.
  • Advanced knowledge of the operating principles and theories of water treatment systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard practices and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of water plant equipment and related laboratory testing and measuring devices.
  • Advanced knowledge of the preventive maintenance practices applicable to water plant equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Skilled in using computers for data entry.

  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to interpret laboratory data as it relates to various chemical processes and be capable of implementing changes in feed systems to optimize treatment
  • Ability to develop sound record keeping procedures and to prepare accurate records
  • Ability to understand complex directions and to follow moderately complex prints and sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Ability to effectively inspect, adjust and perform minor repairs to water treatment plant equipment and machinery
  • Ability to plan, organize, and inspect the work of vendors and/or contractors
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed plant records and prepare clear and concise reports of plant operations
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, regulators and customers
  • Ability to utilize computer hardware and software effectively
