ENGIE UK & Ireland has a fabulous opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to be based in the company HQ at Canary Wharf London E14 5LQ. The role will report into the Head of Legal (Places &Communities) and on offer will be a market rate salary, bonus, car or allowance and benefits.

 

This exciting opportunity for a senior legal counsel will support the growing ENGIE places and communities’ division. As a key lawyer for this division, you will be required to provide timely and commercial legal advice, to assist in the structuring, negotiation, drafting and delivery of complex project arrangements and to deal with risk management, governance and compliance for this business division.

The main accountabilities are:

  • Main responsibility for legal support on a broad range of complex commercial project arrangements particularly in placemaking, land development, district heating and cooling scheme projects to ensure legal risks are appropriately managed and understood;
  • Providing commercial legal advice;
  • Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties;
  • Assisting in the governance of transactions at local and group level;
  • Working closely with colleagues including throughout the Group and with customers;
  • Management of external legal resource on projects.
  • Provide timely, high quality, practical and commercially focussed legal advice balancing legal risk with the commercial needs of the business.
  • Negotiation of legal terms and complete standard and non-standard contractual agreements with counterparties.
  • Successful management of provision of legal advice from external advisers.
  • This position has no formal budgetary accountabilities; however, the candidate will be responsible for managing external legal expenditure.
  • This position has no direct staff reports.
  • An Enhanced DBS clearance will be required for this role. The company will organise this for the successful applicant.

Required qualifications, knowledge skills and experience:

  • UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 8 years post qualification experience (although other candidates will be considered if they can demonstrate comparable experience).
  • Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including corporate and project documents, joint ventures, real estate, land development/regeneration, construction (both industry standard and bespoke forms) and funding arrangements.
  • Exceptional drafting and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.
  • Ability to manage a sizeable workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required.
  • Comfortable with stakeholder management but also able to work with colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capability to negotiate individually and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills - able to manage conflicting and demanding priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience of negotiating complex project arrangements
  • Previous in-house experience
