The Role: Senior ERCOT Trader
 
Purpose

Risk manage and trade the ERCOT power markets for EEMNA. Position is responsible for managing loads and resources, and identifying and executing trading opportunities in the real-time markets. This position requires the flexibility and willingness to cover all real-time markets within provided jurisdictions. This position will support physical assets, loads, and other transaction types. Ideal candidate must possess the ability to function well in an open-floor environment and collaborate well with team members.

Essential Job Functions

  • Deploy trading capital in the ERCOT power region
  • Risk manage ERCOT transactions originated by EEMNA
  • Provide market making to ENGIE North America retail business
  • Work with origination staff
  • Work to develop EEMNA Renewables strategy
  • Provide Senior level leadership in the Gas and Power trading organization.
  • Provide insight into Texas power and Gas fundamentals
  • Primary portfolio manager responsible for long-term portfolio management
  • Experience trading ERCOT
  • Execute bilateral transactions and participant in congestion auctions to balance portfolio and hedge retail customer contracts
  • Maintain forward curves, including all market-based cost components used in pricing retail contracts
  • Develop and execute hedging strategies for energy, shape, basis, capacity, and ancillary positions
  • Independently identify potential risk in the portfolio and develop and execute cost-effective hedging strategies to mitigate that risk
  • Analyze and value strategies to hedge load-following and seasonal weather risk
  • Stay abreast of market developments
 

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of ERCOT trading experience
  • Ability to lead team and provide direction to Trading and Origination staff
  • Disciplined risk taker
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • A strong working knowledge of fundamentals of ERCOT transmission grid
  • Experience working on structured origination transactions (renewables, retail)
  • Clear and effective communicator. Willingness to engage in dialogue and debate with colleagues
  • Can work autonomously and be flexible
  • Proficient in Excel

Essential Physical Abilities

  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
  • Could involve some lifting.

 

Education/Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics or similar discipline
  • 7-10 years combined educational and professional experience
