Storengy UK has a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Operations Manager to join our growing business on the Storengy UK Stublach site near Northwich.

Working as a part of the Commercial Team you will monitor, assess and propose mitigations to risks generated by the commercial operation of Storengy UK’s gas assets. Optimise the commercial strategies and processes for the hedging of capacity and shipping of gas whilst monitoring the market and site operations for opportunities for efficiencies or revenue.

You will have strong analytical and communications skills and ideally a degree or background in relevant numeric/analytical based discipline. It is desirable that you have gas and energy industry knowledge, but it’s not a deal breaker as you will be trained and supported by an experienced Commercial Team.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, monitor and update risk management and forecasting for the commercial operation of the company. Proposing models and forecasting methods, developing tools to optimise the forward view of Commercial Operations.
  • Manage the hedging strategy of the Stublach site and any other Natural Gas assets optimising for the best outcomes for Storengy UK and taking into account market variables and risk. Under the oversight of the Head of Commercial and complying with relevant governance.
  • Work across teams to understand the opportunities and risks of the operational business and work to optimise this for Storengy UK’s benefit.
  • Comply with Storengy UK governance principles for operational balancing and trading.
  • Review and improve commercial operational processes, utilising automation wherever possible either through the development of existing systems or the design and implementation of new systems.
  • Manage the interface with National Grid for daily operational processes and monitor change on the Gemini and other balancing systems to ensure correct allocations of Storengy UK and Customer gas.
  • Monitor and check operational invoices against recorded movements and pass for approval or resolve issues.
  • Keep up to date with regulatory change ensuring all cost models are updated to match the reality of the UK networks.
  • Monitor the market for opportunities, design and implement reporting with appropriate automation. Prepare explanatory papers and presentations as required.
  • Develop, maintain and test the Commercial IT system, taking into account views of all users proposing optimisations and efficiencies as well as new functionality.

The role of Commercial Operations Manager involves the analysis of both written and numerical data and the ability to condense and communicate the results, as such we believe you will need the following skills:

  • Degree in relevant discipline – numeric / analytical based
  • Resilient in pressured situations
  • Able to question the status quo and evidence proposals for change
  • Experience in designing, changing and implementing processes
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to work flexibly and autonomously in a small team environment
  • Understanding of Natural Gas Wholesale Market and the wider global context of Natural Gas

It would be desirable but not essential for you to have any of the following knowledge or experience:

  • Knowledge of trading renewable certificates
  • Understanding of the RTFO (Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation) and its mechanisms
  • Experience of hedging distribution network level industrial plants

We can offer you a salary ranging from £40k to £50k p.a. dependent on experience and multiple additional benefits including:

Our Vanguard project demonstrated the viability of Green Hydrogen production for transport, and we believe hydrogen will be a major part of our future in further projects.
