ENGIE is part of the consortium that has recently closed a 35-year public-private partnership contract to modernize, maintain and operate the district energy system that heats 80 buildings and cools 67 buildings, including the Parliament Buildings, in Canada’s capital region.


As a 1st Class Plant Manager you will influence and motivate your team to practice safe and efficient operations and maintenance of one of the most important and critical 1st Class Heating and Cooling Plants and its attached District Heating & Cooling Networks in specific locations. This includes high pressure steam, chilled water and other services production and distribution.

 What you’ll do:
  • As a People Leader you will be responsible for creating and ensuring a sustainable and healthy work environment.  
  • Own efforts to maximising opportunities for efficient delivery of services.
  • Oversee planning, management and delivery of all aspects of heating and cooling, fostering a client centric and service-oriented work environment for operational and contractual requirements efficiencies.
  • Responsible for compliance of applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards related to the facilities operations and of occupational health, environment & safety.
  • Ensure testing of Plant equipment, maintenance and cleaning of Plant machinery, equipment and building during operations.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the risks and propose corrective actions in the renovation and renewals programs.
  • Responsible for creation and implementation of standard operating procedures and health and safety procedures.
  • Direct fuel procurement and management procedures.
  • Manage processes for appropriate readings and log record keeping.
  • Lead all aspects of labor relations within the Plant, including hiring of staff, performance reviews, scheduling and planning.
  • Make sure the appropriate maintenance is carried out as efficiently as possible and within planned timelines.
What you bring:
  • 7-10 years of experience as 1st Class Plant Chief along with minimum of 10 years experience leading teams.
  • Valid (TSSA Certified) 1st Class Engineering certification.
  • Previous experience working in industrial plant operations (energy sector).
  • Able to maintain a positive attitude and motivate his or her team through multiple and exciting large scale projects.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and managerial experience and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiar with government and regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other CMMS technologies.
  • Ability to ensure safe and efficient operations in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to interpret P&ID diagrams as well as an understanding of control logic.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of O&M staff, and coordinate with contractors.
  • Able to pass all background checks and obtain a security clearance as per client Government of Canada requirements. #LI-SC1
