What You Can Expect

The Water Quality Compliance Coordinator supports the safe, compliant operation of the University of Iowa water systems by coordinating water quality sampling, laboratory result management, and regulatory documentation.

A typical day includes performing and coordinating sampling across treatment, distribution, and pointofuse systems; tracking, reviewing, and trending laboratory results; and distributing data to operations, compliance, and campus stakeholders. The role works closely with the Water Production Manager, HighQuality Water (HQW) Group, certified laboratories, and regulatory agencies to ensure accurate data, defensible records, and timely reporting. This position directly supports compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Water Act, and associated state permits while promoting consistent testing, documentation, and continuous improvement practices. The role has no direct reports but collaborates regularly with operations, compliance, and technical teams.

You support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting through complete, traceable records

 

 

What You’ll Bring

A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, Water Technology, Environmental Science, or a related field, providing foundational knowledge in water chemistry, laboratory methods, and environmental systems;

Or, in lieu of a bachelor’s degree an associate’s degree combined with a Grade III Iowa DNR Operator Certification in Water Treatment and extensive laboratory experience

This role requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in water sampling, field testing, or environmental and utility laboratory coordination, including sample handling, chainofcustody, and chemical safety

  • You will have gained the ability to work independently with limited supervision while coordinating closely with operational and compliance staff
  • You are experienced in interpreting and applying federal, state, and local regulatory requirements governing drinking water and environmental compliance
  • You have handson experience with calibration, validation, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory and field testing equipment
  • You have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple sampling schedules, datasets, and regulatory deliverables with a high degree of accuracy
  • You have demonstrated experience developing SOPs, supporting training activities, and standardizing sampling and record management practices
  • You have strong documentation and recordkeeping skills ensuring accuracy, traceability, and audit readiness
  • You have proficiency using spreadsheets, databases, and structured tracking systems to manage and trend laboratory data
  • You have  demonstrated the ability to clearly communicate technical information to operational, compliance, and regulatory audiences

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis regular onsite presence is required to support sampling, inspections, and coordination with plant operations
  • You must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record, as this role requires licensed operation of company vehicles
  • You must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics, safety, and environmental policies
  • This position consists of a combination of indoor and outdoor work; while performing sampling and inspection duties, the employee is exposed to varying weather conditions

 

Compensation

Range: $63,300 - $96,945 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. 

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive incentive plan.
