What You Can Expect

As our Operating Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe, reliable and cost-efficient operation and maintenance of campus utility production and distribution systems of steam, electricity, condensate, and domestic water, and will report to the Operations Manager.

 

You will:

  • Maintain constant watch over all operating equipment by monitoring the control room computers and instrumentation to ensure the equipment is performing according to prescribed characteristics for a safe and efficient operation in providing steam and electrical services to the central distribution system
  • Make operational changes and adjustments as required to secure safe, efficient, and continual operation
  • Start up and shut down combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators, high pressure boilers, pumps, fans, generators, and auxiliary equipment under normal conditions as well as under emergency conditions to match the demand in a prescheduled manner
  • Maintain production of steam, electricity, condensate, and domestic water distribution throughout the plant serving end user
  • Close and open valves for the service under normal conditions as well as under emergency conditions
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose faults to replace and repair non-operational parts
  • Schedule preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates at optimum performance
  • Review and ensure control room log readings, plant walkdown sheets, boiler readings, and analysis are taken properly by equipment operators. 
  • Make sure corrective actions are taken to chemical treatments and adjustments to plant equipment as required
  • Review operational manuals, technical manuals, and plant procedures

 

What You’ll Bring

 

  • A minimum high school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years background in trade practices of steam engineering
  • 1st Class DC Steam Engineers License

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; may drive company vehicle
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • This position consists of 10% of outdoor work; while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
  • Must operate intuitively from previous background knowledge in troubleshooting the gauges and instruments on panels to bring about satisfactory operation
  • Designated as an emergency employee and must report to work regardless of the university’s operating status
  • Work from drawings and be capable of systematically and logically locating the problem when drawings are not available 
  • Analyze plant processes, design, and implement improvements
  • Translate and communicate operational problems to all levels of management
  • Work with others to detect problems and implements solution
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to lift light to medium weight objects
  • Ability to perform work from ladders or scaffolds, on top of boilers, next to hot steam driven equipment, and near rotating equipment.
  • Ability to push and a pull of objects. 
  • Ability to perform work in an abnormal sitting or standing position.
  • Ability to perform work inside confined spaces, manholes and crawl spaces
  • Willingness to develop technical proficiency in some software applications (Maximo, SAP, ADP)
  • Power Plant and Combustion Turbine experience
  • Ability to interpret, evaluate, and direct conditions and actions of field equipment and personnel

 

 

Compensation

Range: $120,000.00 – $128,000.00 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. 

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
