Job Purpose:

Employee preforms highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting work involved with Electrical Systems. Work involves technical application of electrical principles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Repair and maintenance work in a wide range of electrical equipment.
• Installs, services and repairs lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets, and wirings.
• Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment.
• Installs, repairs, services specialized electrical equipment and machinery.
• Constructs and maintains service equipment.
• Read electrical circuit diagrams.
• Requisitions materials and supplies from stockroom; calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies and recommends purchases and suppliers.
• Transfers primary power from one power source to another.
• Sets poles, strings overhead lines and does overhead line maintenance.
• May do other trades work incidental to electrical work.
• Maintains essential stock of spare parts.
• Responding promptly and efficiently to emergency calls.
• Assist with all emergency services, e.g., Fire Alarms, Lighting, Batteries and Standby Power requirements, inclusive of generators and Fire Fighting System.

Qualifications:

• Appropriate electrical technical qualifications
• Proven experience as an electrician
• Solid understanding of electrical systems in commercial and industrial buildings
• Ability to handle electrical tools and equipment
• Diploma from a trade school or successful completion of apprenticeship

Other Requirements:

• Thorough knowledge of the occupation hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties

Scope and Limits of Authority: 

SCOPE

• Can work independently on a wide range of electrical tasks, including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. They can also supervise apprentices.

LIMIT

• May not be authorized to design electrical systems or take on large-scale projects without the oversight of a master electrician
