Tractebel Inc.’s (Canada) team is growing, and we are seeking experienced senior Instrumentation and Controls Consultant who brings strong expertise from projects such as industrial, nuclear power generation, hydropower, transportation and electricity transmission and distribution. The role is based in Markham with a plan to relocate to downtown Toronto.

As a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Consultant at Tractebel, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing instrumentation and control systems and components for various projects. Your role will involve collaborating with clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure that the instrumentation and controls systems meet the required specifications, codes, and standards. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule. This position performs engineering work under the supervision and professional responsibility of a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. All engineering deliverables are reviewed and approved by a P.Eng. in accordance with provincial regulations.
In this role you will be responsible for :
- Collaborating with project teams, clients, contractors, and vendors to understand mining / mineral processing project requirements, constraints, and objectives
- Supporting the development of instrumentation and controls design criteria and specifications
- Reviewing mechanical package specifications
- Preparing instrumentation deliverables (e.g., instrument lists, datasheets, installation details, loop wiring diagrams, cable lists)
- Developing controls deliverables (including I/O lists, control panel drawings, network architecture diagrams, and control philosophies)
- Assisting with the specification and selection of instruments and automated valves
- Supporting the preparation of requests for proposals and participating in technical evaluations of vendor submissions
- Reviewing vendor instrumentation and controls documents
- Preparing and updating P&IDs for review and validation
- Attending factory acceptance testing
- Participating in plant commissioning, start-up, and optimization
- Supporting project cost estimates and proposals
- Conducting site visits to define instrumentation and controls scope
- Staying updated with industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies related to instrumentation and controls design and implementation
- Adhering to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization
What You’ll Bring
- This role requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- This role requires a minimum of five (5) years experience working as an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer or in a similar role.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensure in Ontario is considered an asset; candidates who are not licensed must be eligible to work under the supervision of a licensed P.Eng.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and controls design principles, codes, and standards, including CEC and ISA.
- Proficiency in valve sizing software
- Solid understanding of instrumentation and controls equipment, components, and materials used in industrial and mining applications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, sub-contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with electrical design will be considered a strong asset, particularly in projects where integrated instrumentation and controls and electrical systems coordination is critical

- This role requires occasional travel to other Tractebel’s locations, client sites, and key industry events, up to 20%

Compensation
Salary Range: $93,300 – $155,500 CAD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all applicable federal, provincial, and local employment standards. Compensation for this role is determined based on legitimate business factors, including role scope, location, experience, education, internal pay alignment, and other bona fide considerations.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
