Plant Operator – Anaerobic Digestion

As a Plant Operator, you will be at the heart of our operations. You will ensure our plant runs safely, efficiently, and continuously. Your hands-on work directly supports the production of renewable energy and contributes to a more sustainable future.

 

Summary of what you will do

 

  • Support the Plant Manager in the daily operation of the anaerobic digestion plant, including feeding, monitoring, and process control.
  • Operate machinery including telehandlers to manage feedstock deliveries, storage, and loading into the digestion plant.
  • Carry out daily, weekly, and monthly plant checks, recording all data accurately in line with company protocols.
  • Perform fault finding on plant equipment and assist the maintenance team with preventative and reactive repairs on pumps, motors, and other systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, ENGIE One Safety policies, and permit-to-work procedures for all site activities.
  • Monitor IT control systems on site and remotely, responding promptly to alarms and process changes during on-call periods.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping across the entire site, including stores management, stock control, and upkeep of green landscape areas.

 

What you will bring to the role

 

  • Previous experience in an engineering, industrial, farming, or renewable energy environment.
  • Proven fault-finding and problem-solving skills in a plant or operational setting.
  • A full UK driving licence and a valid telehandler licence.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence working with control systems and monitoring software.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues, contractors, farming partners, and stakeholders.
  • A self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently, including lone working on a rota basis.
  • Desirable qualifications such as confined space, PASMA, IPAF, abrasive wheels, or DSEAR awareness are advantageous but not essential. Training will be provided for First Aid, Fire Warden, IOSH Managing Safely, and Electrical Safety Awareness.

 

Location

 

This is an on-site role based at our anaerobic digestion plant. The position includes participation in an on-call rota for emergency response and remote monitoring duties at our site based in South Petherton.

 

Working pattern will be 48 hours per week (working 4 x 12 hour day shifts, on a 4 on 4 off basis including weekends.
