ENGIE Lab Singapore is the research centre of ENGIE for Asia-Pacific. ENGIE Lab Singapore brings the technical expertise of ENGIE Research in APAC by developing local expertise leveraging ENGIE Research networks and allowing access in the region to all the technical expertise developed by ENGIE Research in Europe. Bridging the gap between ENGIE Research and business units, ENGIE Lab Singapore plays a key coordinator/local technical support role in balancing the R&D effort and the business needs for the Group. Based in Singapore since 2015, ENGIE Lab Singapore primarily addressed 3 technological areas: Smart grid, Future Industries and Cities & New Gases. In 2020, ENGIE Lab Singapore refocused its strategy to stay in line with group strategy and local context and strengthen its expertise in cooling, sustainable data centres and local energy communities, including REIDS-SPORE multifluid multi-thematic platform.

A Senior R&D Engineer (M/F)
Position based in Singapore
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
You will join the Cooling R&D team specifically responsible for supporting and executing of various research projects/tasks related to low carbon cooling technologies as part of ENGIE’s core business. Within this cooling program, you will be responsible for execution of various research projects/tasks that require competencies on modelling/simulation, data science and low carbon cooling systems analysis. As a senior research engineer, you will also be responsible to guide the junior engineers and interns for respective projects under your purview, and you will be supporting the program managers in relating to technical support to local business units potentially on commercial engagements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Propose, plan and conduct research works concerning low carbon cooling technologies aligned with the direction of the group R&D objectives;
- Support strongly on the continuous development of new products (hardware and software) within the group;
- Contribute to all projects that require modelling/simulation, data science and energy related analysis skills;
- Support with expertise and knowledge in terms of design and optimization of District Heating and Cooling (DHC) Systems relevant to R&D programs and to services for the Business Unit;
- Support physically and technically for the demonstrator project locally in Singapore;
- Guide and lead engineer(s) and interns to conduct research works under the program, ensure deliverables in time and in good quality;
- Interact with European experts of different disciplines to support local research and other relevant works;
- Support technically engagement with ENGIE business entities (local and outside), academics, and industrial and/or research partners for projects;
- Perform benchmark, technical & economic analysis and testing of innovative solutions;
- Perform techno watch to identify innovations and new solutions/technologies;
- Support the other R&D teams in the lab in terms of consultation, knowledge sharing, project coordination, etc.
- Report weekly to your manager.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- You have worked in energy-related research works for 3-5 years;
- You have a Master or Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Mathematics Mechanical Engineering or other engineering in related areas;
- You have strong knowledge in data analysis and simulation (e.g. Dymola, Simulink)
- You have a strong knowledge in DHC, local energy communities and refrigeration systems operation and optimisation;
- You have relevant data analytics and programming skills needed to support the research works;
- Knowledge on emerging / innovative and decarbonised solutions are an added advantages;
- You are able to handle works both in an agile project and an industry project;
