Our ENGIE Laborelec team performs consultancy and applied Research and Development (R&D) projects in the power energy business and backs a large set of customers in the fields of generation, transmission, distribution, storage and final use, with a particular focus upon the energy transition and net zero carbon.

 

As part of our consulting and R&D activities, ENGIE Laborelec is looking for talented senior engineers to support the execution of Service and R&D projects focused on ensuring an efficient energy transition in Latin America that considers a strong penetration of renewables and flexibilization of existing thermal assets.

 

Context of the job 

To reinforce our Laborelec team in Chile, ENGIE Laborelec is looking for an Senior Thermal Project Engineer LATAM.

 

As a Senior Thermal Project Engineer LATAM you will be accountable for

  • Technical support for the evaluation of the condition of thermal generation assets like turbines, boilers and auxiliary working under cycling conditions. This study will typically include:
  • Site inspections to assess the current condition of the asset under investigation and identify different damage mechanics.
  • Data analysis to identify deviations from the normal or recommended operation conditions of the asset.
  • Risk assessment to identify the main failure mechanism that may affect the units and define countermeasures to reduce control the level of risk.
  • Installation of different condition monitoring systems to measure and evaluate in real time the behaviour of different operation parameters.
  • Detailed vibration analysis and troubleshooting of turbo generator shaft lines to determine the rotodynamic condition of different turbomachinery.
  • Supervision and interpretation of different NDT techniques.
  • Technical support to improve the performance of thermal power plants. This technical support will typically include:
  • Elaboration of different KPI’s to identify the Performance of individual turbines or boilers.
  • Analysis of operational parameters.
  • Review O&M information.
  • Use of specialized software to simulate different conditions of operation and the behaviour of the analysed unit.
  • Technical support for different investigations to be performed on Thermal assets. These investigations will typically include:
  • Fact findings on damaged components, identifying damage mechanisms and potential causes of failure.
  • Support power plants on technical discussions with O&M, insurance companies and local regulators.
  • Witness inspections and different procedures performed by external contractors.
  • Evaluate different technologies in the case of upgrades or retrofitting’s.
  • Technical support to prepare for the efficient/safe use of hydrogen, as well as to enable the efficient integration of renewable energies. This technical support will normally include:
  • Perform risk assessments for the hydrogen use in the different large industry applications,
  • Evaluate the efficient integration of H2 production assets withing the current electrical and gas network,
  • Evaluate the conversion to H2 (or hydrogen carries) of the different industrial assets using fossil fuels,
  • Troubleshooting of observed faults in solar and wind power plants,
  • Overseeing the efficient integration of energy storage.

 

You may be our future colleague if… 

  • You have a Mechanical, Electrical or Energy engineering degree
  • You have experience in the power industry (ideally in the maintenance and troubleshooting of major power plant equipment).
  • You have the minimum competences to manage in an efficient service and R&D projects.
  • You demonstrate strong technical competences in fields listed above.
  • You show strong interest in the power generation sector and you are motivated in contributing with the energy transition.
  • A basic understanding of the operation of the Chilean national grid (Coordinador Electrico Nacional) and / or other similar electrical grids / markets is an asset.
  • You are fully proficient in English and Spanish.
  • A cross-competence in business would be a plus.
