Tractebel Inc.’s (Canada) team is growing, and we are seeking experienced senior Geotechnical Engineer who brings a strong civil engineering expertise from projects such as industrial, nuclear power generation, hydropower, transportation and electricity transmission and distribution. The role is based in Markham with a plan to relocate to downtown Toronto.

Daily, you will support the development, design, and implementation of nuclear, waterpower and hydropower projects, including dams, spillways, intakes, hydraulic structures, penstocks, water conveyance systems, and related civil works. You participate in multi-disciplinary teams and projects of all scales and sectors, such as hydropower, and nuclear power generation. You execute major projects, supporting complex proposals, mentoring of junior staff, coordinating and supervision of engineers in international engineering offices, as well being a technical reference. You will develop and expand Tractebel Inc.’s (Canada) in-house geotechnical capability by building on the existing portfolio of our rapidly expanding, flexible and outward looking team that can tackle work across a broad range of sectors. You’ll participate in technical meetings in front of peers, partners, clients or suppliers. You will work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client’s requirements, and develop a full understanding of, and align with, Tractebel governance and standard working practices, strategies & objectives.
What You’ll Bring
- You will possess a minimum of a four (4) year bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a focus in Geotechnical Engineering
- You will have a minimum of five years of relevant experience as a Geotechnical Engineer
- You will be licensed (and in good standing) to practice as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
- You will have gained experience working in a highly regulated industry based in Canada
- Experience working with or for OPG will be considered as an asset
- You will be fluent in English. Knowledge of other languages (especially French) is welcome
- You will have learned to be self-driven and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a multi-disciplinary environment
- You will have proven experience in a senior role in an engineering consultancy (EPC) environment
- You will have gained project management experience and understanding of the needs and approaches to the engineering consultancy markets, including relationships with clients, and work planning
- You will have gained experience with dam engineering, water retaining structures, and water conveyance systems
- You have demonstrated experience in geotechnical site investigations, condition assessment, risk assessment, soil engineering, rock mechanics, tunnel, canal, foundations, project management, design, procurement, and construction
- You have expert engineering knowledge in geotechnical engineering associated with industrial civil projects, including geotechnical analysis, design, finite element method, and hydrogeologic engineering
- You have demonstrated ability in planning and conducting geotechnical studies, inspections, investigations, and performing engineering designs and evaluations for rock foundations, slopes, tunnels, and other civil works associated with power generating or industrial facilities
- You have the gained the expertise to independently problem solve with methods and tools required for Geotechnical Engineering applications. Good working knowledge of Geotechnical codes, standards, industry practices, software, and modelling tools
- You have developed excellent document preparation skills with the ability to review and produce quality deliverables
- You have expertise in supporting the development of engineering teams.
Additional Details
- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
- You must be available to travel domestically up to 20% of the time
- You must possess a valid Provincial driver’s license/clean driving record
- You must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies;
- You must have excellent communication, and presentation skills (written, verbal, digital)
- You must have strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects, tasks, and people
- This role requires occasional travel to other Tractebel’s locations, client sites, and key industry events
- This role requires flexibility in your time schedule based on the needs of projects

Compensation
Salary Range: $93,300 – $155,500 CAD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all applicable, minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
