What You Can Expect

The Permitting and Planner Manager is eligible to work remotely in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will be responsible for the management of permitting and land use entitlements, coordination of AHJs (Authority Handling Jurisdiction), representing ENGIE projects at public hearings, and supporting the environmental diligence efforts.

 

Every day will involve you partnering and coordinating with cross-functional teams, the developers, real estate, execution, community relations, and other groups within ENGIE for the successful execution and delivery/hand-off of new battery storage projects to the execution team for construction and operations. You will manage multiple projects supporting business development efforts in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.   In this role you will also perform as a representative for ENGIE in meetings with the community, elected officials, and regulators.

 

  • Conduct site assessments, constraints analyses, risk assessment for permitting feasibility for early-stage project development
  • Knowledge and ability to secure discretionary and ministerial land use and environmental permits for new and acquired batter energy storage facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions for projects in the CAISO (California Independent System Operator) region
  • Understanding of local requirements, processes, timelines, and costs in project jurisdictions and share information for project budgets, plans, schedules, and third-party EPC Agreements
  • Manage technical and environmental studies for battery storage development. Identify and implement problem solving strategies to reduce project cost, impacts, and to mitigate environmental risk
  • Coordinate with design engineers and technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to develop permit application support documentation. Successfully negotiate project design with local, state, and federal regulators to ensure project success while understanding project constraints
  • Select, manage, and guide contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget. Assist in cost reduction initiatives, vendor development, and invoice audits 
  • Draft text for use in project origination support, public education, and investor reporting materials

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in land use planning, environmental sciences, geography, or related field in which you have learned business administration, communication, project management, planning, and presentation skills
  • Minimum of five years proven track record of permitting expertise in development in a utility-scale environment
  • Knowledge of local and state siting and permitting processes and state regulations within CAISO, and federal permitting 
  • Project and case leadership skills including a strong interest in managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to communicate efficiently in verbal and written correspondence
  • Experienced in environmental analysis, diligence, environmental regulations, and knowledge of renewable energy construction process; real estate development; renewable energy projects/assets evaluation and acquisition
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, project management software, ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision

 

Additional Details

  • This is a position requiring regular travel to field/client sites and meetings
  • Must be available to travel (domestically) up to 20% of the time (and with the need for some overnight trips) 
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • Could involve some lifting

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $112,000.00 - $172,500.00 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
