Are you ready to ensure the reliability of cutting-edge renewable energy systems? ENGIE North America is seeking a dedicated High Voltage Technician to maintain and support the electrical system performance of our fleet of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the United States.
As the High Voltage Technician, you will maintain and repair ENGIE North America’s fleet of BESS substations and BESS BOP (Balance of Plant) electrical systems, ensuring their compliance with NETA-MTS, IEEE, NFPA, and NERC PRC-005C standards.
Additionally, you will verify the commissioning of these systems in alignment with NETA-ATS standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements. All work will be conducted in accordance with company procedures, industry best practices, and established safety protocols to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of high-voltage systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintain and repair high-voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, cables, and associated BESS systems, ensuring adherence to company maintenance procedures, industry standards, and safety guidelines
- Verify the commissioning of high-voltage systems in alignment with NETA-ATS standards, collaborating with third-party contractors and external teams during the construction and commissioning phases of new projects
- Troubleshoot and resolve faults in high-voltage electrical systems, applying innovative solutions to solve complex problems and minimize downtime
- Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure maintenance and commissioning tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and within established timelines
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and commissioning activities, generate detailed reports for internal stakeholders, and update CMMS systems as required
- Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations, including NFPA 70E, OSHA standards, IEEE safety guidelines, and NETA safety procedures, fostering a culture of safety excellence
What You’ll Bring
- High School Diploma or an Associates degree in a technical field related to Engineering, technology,
- Minimum of (5) five years of experience with high-voltage electrical equipment in testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance, including specific experience in renewable energy systems, particularly Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Relevant certifications such as NETA Level I or II (or 5+ years of relevant experience), OSHA Electrical Safety Training, and manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Megger, Doble, Omicron).
- A strong understanding of electrical theory, high-voltage principles, and grounding systems, with hands-on experience in operating and maintaining high-voltage equipment, including transformers, switchgear, switchboards, ATS, breakers, and cables
- Extensive knowledge and safety awareness of voltage systems ranging from 120VAC to 345kV
- A solid understanding of AC and DC control voltages, with a focus on 125VDC floating ground control voltages and systems
- Familiarity with industry standards, such as IEEE, NETA, NFPA, ANSI, and IEC, is essential
- Proficient in performing advanced electrical testing across a wide range of equipment, including transformers (Power Factor, TTR, winding resistance, excitation, SFRA, and DGA analysis), SF6 and vacuum breakers (insulation resistance, timing, minimum pickup, contact resistance), potential/voltage and current transformers (TTR, excitation, polarity, dielectric withstand, burden tests), medium voltage cables (VLF, PD, fault location), air switches, switchgear/switchboards (ATS functionality, breaker testing, torque verification), metering and relaying (event file analysis, basic meter testing), SCADA/control systems (basic networking and subsystem knowledge), and thermography (IR scan surveys and interpretation)
Additional Details
- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 75% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; use of company vehicle, ability to drive to site locations
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Hourly Range: $36.00 - $55.14 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
