What You Can Expect

As the Associate General Counsel in Houston, Texas you will be responsible for being a subject-matter expert in the wholesale energy trading business who will expand the legal capabilities of ENGIE’s Global Energy Management & Sales (“GEM”) business platform.

 

Every day, you will report to the Vice President & General Counsel collaborating closely with the business team to play a pivotal role in achieving ambitious commercial goals while identifying and mitigating risks. You will also, draft, review and negotiate a variety of agreements from master agreements for energy commodities to long-term renewable power purchase agreements.

 

 

What You’ll Bring

  • You must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • You must be licensed to practice law in at least one state in the United States (preferably Texas or New York)
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of combined legal experience in the United States with a law firm or major corporate legal department; practice with a top-tier firm and combination of outside counsel and prior in-house experience is beneficial to the success of this role
  • Deep expertise in wholesale energy markets with strong communication skills is needed to perform this role
  • Ability to analyze complex business situations, taking into account business drivers, to develop risk mitigation recommendations in a commercially minded manner
  • Able to clearly explain risks, advise on both commercial and associated legal consequences and exercise sound judgement on difficult issues
  • Ability to build and manage relationships and work in a fast-paced energy trading environment

Compensation

Salary Range: $190,000 – $292,100 USD annually

 

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. 

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
