What You Can Expect

At ENGIE, we believe clean energy is built project by project, decision by decision. We're looking for a Project Developer to help advance utility-scale battery energy storage projects across the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) market. In this role, your work will directly contribute to strengthening grid reliability and accelerating the transition to a zero-carbon energy future.

As a Project Developer, you'll help guide projects through key stages of development, from initial site evaluation and feasibility through permitting, interconnection, commercial structuring, investment approval, and construction readiness. You'll identify opportunities, navigate complex development challenges, and help bring high-impact energy infrastructure projects to fruition.

Working closely with teams across land acquisition, permitting, interconnection, engineering, commercial strategy, pre-construction, and project delivery, you'll play a central role in shaping project outcomes, mitigating risk, and advancing ENGIE's growth strategy. This position offers meaningful exposure to internal and external stakeholders and the opportunity to influence decisions that help define the next generation of energy infrastructure in California.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the development of utility-scale battery energy storage projects across the CAISO market, guiding projects from early-stage feasibility through construction readiness
  • Drive key development workstreams, including land acquisition, permitting, environmental review, interconnection, project design, and commercial structuring, in partnership with internal teams and external consultants
  • Manage project permitting and regulatory processes, including agency coordination, application submissions, public hearings, and compliance activities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, community stakeholders, utilities, public officials, regulatory agencies, and strategic project partners
  • Assess project risks, opportunities, and development strategies to support project advancement, value creation, and investment decisions
  • Support power marketing, energy offtake, project financing, due diligence, and M&A activities, including business case development and investment committee materials
  • Maintain project schedules, budgets, reporting, and governance processes to ensure progress against key milestones and development objectives
  • Monitor market, regulatory, and policy developments affecting energy storage projects while representing ENGIE at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder forums

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, Finance, Economics, Energy, Planning, or a related field
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience developing utility-scale renewable energy, energy storage, transmission, infrastructure, or other large-scale capital projects
  • Experience advancing projects through key development milestones, including permitting, interconnection, regulatory review, stakeholder engagement, and construction readiness
  • Experience developing projects within the CAISO market, with knowledge of California regulatory, permitting, and interconnection processes; experience within other ISO/RTO markets may be considered
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while identifying risks, solving complex challenges, and driving projects forward
  • Strong relationship-building skills with landowners, community stakeholders, utilities, regulatory agencies, public officials, consultants, and cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of project economics, commercial considerations, and investment decision-making, including the evaluation of project risks and opportunities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across technical, commercial, and executive audiences
