Purpose of the job:

 

As a Plant Operator you will be responsible for the effective and efficient running of the anaerobic digestion plant. To assist the Plant Manager to ensure the plants run continuously at optimal efficiency.  To deliver a quality product efficiently, safely and professionally within set budgets and agreed timescales.   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Supporting the Plant Manager and Maintenance team in the day to day running of the plant including feeding and routine monitoring
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and Engie One Safety policies. Supporting the Plant and Assistant Plant Manager, the Plant Operator will also have responsibility for ensuring all elements of health and safety protocols are adhered to. 

  • Ensuring all near misses, incidents and accidents are reported immediately in accordance with the Company protocols in place.

  • Initiating emergency procedures in line with Company protocols.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment through good housekeeping procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting with the feedstock deliveries, storage and loading feedstock into digestion plant using a telehandler.  Working alongside the Plant Manager and Assistant Manager to ensure accurate recording of feedstock deliveries.

  • Perform fault finding and continuous improvement within the plant

  • Assisting the Plant Maintenance team with general maintenance including minor fault repairs on pumps and motors to ensure plant optimisation.  Ensuring that all preventative and reactive maintenance is carried out in accordance with the maintenance plans within set timeframes.

  • Responsible for plant daily/weekly/monthly checks and ensuring that these are carried out within the timescales set and recorded accurately in line with the Company protocols.

  • Assist the plant maintenance team to ensure good stock control of the site stores and keeping the area clean and tidy and well organised.  Identifying any critical spares that are required to be replaced when utilised.

  • Responsible for site cleanliness and for maintaining excellent housekeeping throughout the plant.  This includes some general maintenance of the green landscape areas within both plants including weeding, spraying (training to be provided) and strimming etc.

  • Monitoring IT control systems and responding accordingly. This will include being responsible for remote monitoring when on call or off site.

  • Adhering to, monitoring and responding appropriately to site processes and procedures.  Checking with the Assistant Manager/Plant Maintenance Manager, or in their absence responsible for, ensuring all contractors have correct permits to work and paperwork in place prior to any commencement of works. Being responsible for stopping any works should the correct permits not be in place or for any other reasons including for health and safety breaches.

  • Working with the Assistant Manager to ensure accurate Meter readings are processed.

  • Weighbridge operations – a good working knowledge of the weighbridge program and how that works. 

  • Maintaining good liaison with colleagues, residents and other stakeholders – excellent communication skills essential.

  • Liaising with the partner farming teams delivering feedstock into the plants. 

  • At times you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the plant and emergency call out and this will be lone working.   This is based on a rota system.

  • Completing all mandatory training within the timings specified and ensuring that compliance is 100%.

  • Support training programs when required to facilitate knowledge sharing for plant and operations

Knowledge and skills:

 

The job holder will have:

  • Previous experience within an engineering or industrial background
  • Proven experience in fault finding including trouble shooting and problem solving
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Self motivated and have the ability to work using own initiative
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to communicate at all levels
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to drive machinery ie. Telehandler, forklift etc.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Experience:

 

The job holder will have:

  • Previous experience within the renewable energy sector is desirable or within engineering, farming or industrial environments

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Essential

  • Full UK driving
  • Telehandler licence
  • First Aider (training will be provided)
  • Fire Warden (training will be provided)
  • IOSH managing safely (training will be provided)
  • Electrical safety awareness (training will be provided)

PASMA (working with tower scaffolding etc at height)

IPAF (working with powered access equipment)
