ENGIE is leading the transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. In Australia, we operate over 1,000 MW of renewable and gas‑fired generation assets across SA and WA, supported by national trading, retail, and service operations. Pelican Point Power Station plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable and efficient generation for the South Australian market.
We are now seeking an Operator Maintainer (OM) Level 1 to join the team at Pelican Point.
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, the OM Level 1 works within a disciplined operations team to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of the Pelican Point Power Station.
You will carry out operational routines, assist with fault diagnosis, perform critical minor maintenance, monitor plant performance and support safe work practices across the site. This role requires flexibility, strong situational awareness and a commitment to continuous learning.
This position has no direct budget responsibility and no direct reports, but works closely with maintenance staff, engineers, contractors and internal ENGIE teams.
Key Responsibilities
As an OM Level 1, you will:
- Operate the power plant under supervision within defined boundaries to maximise availability, efficiency and commercial performance.
- Assist with fault diagnosis and perform critical minor maintenance on plant and equipment.
- Carry out operational routines and tasks using the computerised maintenance management system (Maximo).
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Cooperate with Maintenance Technicians and the Maintenance Coordinator to support safe and effective maintenance activities.
- Monitor operational parameters, control Canunda set point, and undertake remote operation of Synergen sites as required.
- Identify plant abnormalities and provide feedback into Maximo for defects and task completion.
- Support outage activities and ensure accurate electronic archiving of operational documentation.
- Comply with all Work Health and Safety obligations, site Safety Rules and ENGIE policies.
- Continually build operational knowledge and broaden technical capability through training and development.
- Able to work safely in an operational/shift environment and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation (SA), power plant equipment and maintenance principles, and component life‑cycle.
- Familiar with procurement processes and confident using Microsoft Office and technical systems.
- Knowledge of power plant performance, thermal efficiency, and regulatory requirements.
- Exposure to plant operations, gas turbines, instrumentation & control systems, and isolation/HV switching.
- Hold a relevant technical/trade/engineering qualification, Driver’s Licence, Forklift Licence and White Card.
- Collaborative, adaptable and communicates professionally.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently and meet deadlines during peak periods
