About the Role
As the Occupational Health & Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and compliant delivery of the PP-BESS project. Based on-site throughout the establishment, construction, commissioning, and handover phases, you’ll oversee daily contractor activities and ensure alignment with ENGIE’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) standards, project plans, and regulatory requirements.

This is a 2-year fixed term contract position, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a landmark renewable energy initiative.

Key Responsibilities
Operational & Technical

  • Implement and manage ENGIE’s HSE systems and tools on-site.
  • Supervise contractor activities to ensure compliance with HSE plans and safe work practices.
  • Lead safety initiatives and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Participate and contribute in risk assessments, toolbox talks, SIMOPS, and pre-start meetings.
  • Review contractor documentation including SWMS, LMRS, and HSE plans.
  • Investigate incidents and support continuous improvement.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly HSE performance reports.

Strategic & Compliance

  • Support development of HSE systems for ANZ R&B construction sites.
  • Ensure compliance with development conditions, licences, and legislation.
  • Act as liaison for regulatory inspections and audits.

Commercial & Financial

  • Review HSE aspects of CAPEX/OPEX budgets.
  • Evaluate contractor HSE proposals and performance.
  • Support supplier qualification and continuous improvement initiatives.

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Champion ENGIE’s One Safety Program and Life Saving Rules across all project sites.
  • Maintain and lead a strong safety culture on site, setting the standard for safe work practices.
  • Assist with the Health & Safety requirements of other project sites as needed.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to people and the environment through proactive planning and engagement.
  • Encourage the proactive reporting of hazards and near misses, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

About You

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Cert IV in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • ICAM/Tap Root investigation training.
  • Must hold a valid Construction White Card, or be willing to obtain one prior to commencing work.
  • First Aid & CPR certification.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong knowledge of South Australian and national OHS&E legislation.
  • Proven leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in electrical installations and renewable energy projects.
  • Analytical problem-solving and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a dynamic site environment
