Millwright: ENGIE Kathu Operations (External) Permanent Position
Purpose
They are responsible for installing, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing the plant’s machinery, which often involves working with mechanical hydraulic, pneumatic systems on the powerblock, solar field and other auxiliary plants.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Enforce HSE and Quality policies and procedures and ensure that all HSE measures and precautions are strictly considered and taken care of during the execution of maintenance activities.
- Execute day to-day maintenance activities according to Maximo notification and priority set up by the Maintenance Manager.
- Install, align, and assemble machinery and equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine work procedures.
- Assemble, dismantle, and overhaul equipment using hand and power tools.
- Reports to the Maintenance Manager all jobs carried out and record them properly in Maximo.
- Participate in Plant scheduled shutdowns and planned/scheduled/unscheduled maintenance.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, bearing liners, seal replacement, cleaning of parts, integrity testing and modifications if required.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues to minimize downtime.
- Conduct inspections and tests to ensure machinery operates safely and efficiently.
Mechanical Expertise:
- Work with mechanical systems such as gearboxes and hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
- Use precision and power tools like vernier calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators for accurate measurements and alignment as well as the usage of drills, grinder etc.
EC&I Expertise:
- Install, troubleshoot and maintain electrical components of machinery, including motors, control systems, and wiring.
- Ensure proper functioning of electrical systems through regular inspections and testing.
Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
Essential Qualifications:
- Grade 12
- National Diploma in Electro-mechanical / N6 Millwright
- Millwright trade test
- Qualified Millwright artisan/technician with 5 years mineral processing, mining manufacturing or Power plant/ generation experience
Experience:
- At least 5 years’ experience in Electrical/EC&I and Mechanical maintenance of large power generation or continuous process plants.
- Hands on experience on both mechanical and EC&I systems.
- Extensive pneumatic and hydraulic systems experience (gearboxes, pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, pumps, actuators, valves, mechanical components).
- Vast experience with electrical components of machinery, including motors, control systems, and wiring.
- Hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of EC&I equipment of steam or gas turbines.
- Comprehensive understanding of engineering systems integrations between mechanical and EC&I to operational processes to achieve system configuration and operations.

- Knowledge of the kinds and types of equipment installed derived through a combination of hands-on experience and formal training performed in the manufacturer’s factory and/or at the job site;
- Demonstrates skills in the use of tools, test equipment and calibration appliances;
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, basic understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity and mathematics;
- Must be able to visually read and respond to computer generated data, instrumentation, gauges, readouts and variations color;
- Hands on background in water treatment equipment maintenance as related to high pressure boilers, desalination, cooling water systems and water purification equipment;
- Working knowledge of Environmental Regulations as they pertain to the operations and maintenance of an energy generating facility.
- Ability to perform First Aid and CPR.
Language:
- English Language: excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Computer:
- Computer literate: must have a some degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Databases, Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Maintenance Management System and SAP-PM/Maximo, able to write and read technical reports/publications.
Remuneration:
- The compensation will be market related
