At ENGIE, great adventures always start with a simple "hello" and the desire to take action for tomorrow. If, like us, you strongly believe the energy transition holds opportunities for you and for everyone, then look no further, you belong with us!
Our goal is to be the best energy transition utility, and we have an ambition to reach net zero emissions by 2045. In Australia, this includes flexible power generation, energy retail services for homes and businesses, advanced energy management solutions, and a growing portfolio of future-focused projects — from hydrogen and battery storage to wind and solar developments.

About the Role

Join ENGIE’s Supply & Energy Management team as a Trading Quantitative Analyst and help shape the mathematical models that support trading decisions across Australia and New Zealand’s energy markets.

In this role, you’ll work closely with analytics, trading, pricing and risk specialists to build, test and refine quantitative models that support commercial decision‑making. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment that values learning, innovation and diverse thinking.

Technical Excellence

  • Develop quantitative models to value OTC and electricity option contracts, applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques.
  • Work alongside Forward Trading and Origination teams to refine models, ensuring they reflect market behaviour and support business strategies.
  • Design algorithms and analytical tools that interpret complex market dynamics and assist trading decisions.
  • Manage end‑to‑end delivery of modelling tasks—from gathering requirements through to implementation, documentation and testing—supported by senior members of the Analytics and Trading teams.
  • Maintain strong model controls and transparent documentation to ensure clarity, reproducibility and a high standard of governance.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with the Pricing team in the Quantitative Research Methodology Expertise Centre (EC) on model development and review.
  • Engage with Risk teams, including Risk Methodo in Europe, to support model validation and alignment with global standards.

Innovation & Improvement

  • Contribute creative and analytical ideas to solve new modelling challenges and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Suggest enhancements or new modelling approaches to support the Head of Analytics and Head of Forward Power Trading.
  • Share knowledge by training team members on tools or models you develop.

This role suits someone who enjoys complex problem‑solving, is curious about market dynamics, and wants to apply quantitative expertise in a supportive, high‑impact trading environment.

About You

You’re an analytical thinker who enjoys exploring mathematical challenges and turning ideas into practical tools that help others make informed decisions. You thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated by learning, experimentation and continuous improvement.

  • A tertiary qualification in Quantitative Finance or a related discipline.
  • Foundational experience applying quantitative methods in a professional or academic setting.
  • Proven ability to develop or run quantitative models that support commodity trading, including option valuation models.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python or C#.
  • Strong statistical skills and confidence working with numerical data—collecting, organising, analysing and interpreting results.
  • A thoughtful, creative and curious approach to problem‑solving, with a willingness to experiment and test new ideas.
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks while also contributing collaboratively to team goals.
