About the Role

We’re seeking a dynamic and analytical Spot Trader to join our Energy Management team. This critical role is responsible for real-time optimisation and management of ENGIE’s power and gas portfolios across the National Electricity Market (NEM), Declared Wholesale Gas Market (DWGM), and Short-Term Trading Market (STTM).

You’ll execute and support trading strategies, respond to market dynamics, and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks—all while maximising commercial outcomes and maintaining operational integrity.

 

Shift Work Hours: This role requires working in scheduled shifts, which may include early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Shift patterns are designed to ensure 24/7 operational coverage and may rotate on a weekly or monthly basis. There are also day shifts where you will act as an operational optimiser and provide support to the duty trader.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic

  • Optimise ENGIE’s trading portfolio in real-time, responding to market signals and operational events.
  • Support and implement short-term trading strategies across electricity and gas markets.

Operational

  • Collaborate with generation asset teams to support efficient operations.
  • Provide operational optimisation and support to the duty trader during day shifts.
  • Participate in a rotating shift roster to ensure 24/7 market coverage.

Compliance

  • Ensure trading activities align with market rules, regulations, and internal risk limits.
  • Support regulatory and compliance teams in managing evolving obligations.

 

 

About You

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Engineering, Economics, Finance, Commerce or Mathematics.

Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of energy trading, operations, or portfolio management.
  • Interest in understanding physical spot markets and energy market mechanisms—preferably within the Australian context.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and knowledge of energy trading platforms.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities.
