What You Can Expect
As the Mechanical Engineering Advisor, you will be a part of the Engineering Team within the Capital Projects structure and will report to the Director of Engineering. In this role you will be responsible for leading and delivering all aspects of engineering, related to operations and maintenance of existing assets and design, new capital green and brownfield projects. The role will serve to conceptualize and front-end engineer the design, which once validated is provided to external detailed design engineering and installation contractors, interconnecting utilities, permitting authorities, clients, and building owners. During project execution, you will lead engineering deliverables and provide assurance on the project design. The position will liaison with other technical centers of excellence within ENGIE globally, and manage these relationships and engagements.
Responsibilities:
- Develop conceptual designs for power, heating, and cooling systems, including major equipment selection, basis of design, assumptions, scope/exclusions, and budgetary capital cost estimates
- Provide engineering support across procurement and construction, including RFP development, specifications, design reviews, and oversight of 3rd‑party detailed engineering to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and ENGIE obligations
- Support construction execution by responding to RFIs, managing field change documentation, coordinating utility tie‑ins/outages, assessing temporary equipment needs, and resolving technical issues during construction, commissioning, and startup
- Lead and participate in technical reviews, HAZID/HAZOPs, FATs, and development/review of procedures for major equipment and systems
- Deliver engineering support for permitting and regulatory requirements, including air, fire, water, low‑voltage systems, and utility approvals
- Ensure reliability, integrity, and operational excellence of existing district energy assets, including ongoing performance and system optimization
- Lead existing asset decarbonization efforts by assessing current carbon footprint and developing long‑term carbon reduction strategies
- Perform process and performance assessments of district heating and cooling systems from production through distribution to ETS.
- Develop and analyze thermal, hydraulic, and energy models, including customer thermal/electrical loads based on historical data, future projections, climate, and conservation opportunities
- Evaluate existing customer energy infrastructure (capacity, age, integrity, reliability), optimize production configurations to meet network KPIs, and support root cause analysis of operational issues
What You’ll Bring
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical or related engineering or discipline
- Minimum seven (7) years of working experience in design/engineering of Power plants, Chilled water, HVAC systems and/or district energy systems in North America
- Demonstrated knowledge of gas turbines, gas engine gensets, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), steam turbines, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, pipe distribution systems (steam, low temperature hot water, condensate, chilled water, etc.) and geo-exchange
- Experience in thermal engineering related to developing, constructing and operating District Energy, Utilities and Combined Heat And Power Systems
- Knowledge of applicable industrial codes and standards – ASME, NFPA, ASHRAE, EN, ISO and other design codes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, coaching and mentoring of staff
- Ability to handle varied assignments independently with a high degree of accuracy.
- Preferably, should have Software knowledge of thermal design and performance modeling tools such as GT Pro, Gate Cycle and/or Termis and Familiarity with data historians such as OSI PI and Web CTRL
Additional Details
- This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% to 50% of the time
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; involves occasional fieldwork across active construction sites
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
Compensation
Salary Range: $140,000 – $170,000 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
