Mechanical Technician (Internal & External) Kathu Operations (Pty) Ltd – Permanent position

 

Main Job Responsibilities include

 

  • Ensures that there is a Permit to Work for each job as necessitated by the safety rules and associated Procedures.
  • Adhere to safety standards and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Supports reliable and accessible 24-hour call-out functionality.
  • Performs troubleshooting activities as necessary along with the mechanical engineer and colleagues to determine failure conditions and rectifies the defects found.
  • Ensures that all necessary tools are available to ensure the safe working on equipment and used during the performance on all jobs at the Plant.
  • Points out any unsafe conditions to the maintenance manager and mechanical engineer.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and diagnose problems in machinery and related systems.
  • Repair or replace worn or malfunctioning parts and equipment.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Document maintenance and repair work, creating detailed reports on interventions and outcomes.
  • Assumes ownership of plant mechanical equipment and strives to keep them in the best possible condition.
  • Discuss planned and unplanned jobs undertaken with the lead technician.
  • Assists the lead technician in planning daily jobs.

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Grade 12/ Technical Matric.
  • Qualified Fitter Artisan with red seal (Fitter) and N6 in Engineering studies: Fitter with 6 years as Power plant experience. OR
  • Qualified Mechanical Technician (National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering) with 3 years Industrial or Power plant experience.

 

Experience:

 

  • At least 3 years’ experience in Mechanical maintenance of large power generation or Power plant experience/continuous process plants.
  • Hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of steam turbine, pumps systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, valves, fitting and turning, gearboxes, tribology processes or other major rotating equipment will be advantageous.
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of major rotating equipment.

Hands-on experience in fabricating, installing, commissioning, and repairing heavy machinery.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the kinds and types of equipment installed derived through a combination of hands-on experience and formal training performed in the manufacturer’s factory and/or at the job site;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, an understanding of chemistry, physics, mechanics and mathematics.
  • Must be able to visually read and respond to computer generated data
  • A person of sober habits.
  • Proficient with PC software’s and SAP/MAXIMO, able to write technical reports.
  • Good command of oral and written English
