What You Can Expect
As our Assistant Watch Engineer, at ENGIE’s Medical Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP) located in Boston, MA you will be responsible for operating and performing routine operating maintenance of steam, chilled water and electrical generating equipment for MATEP, LLC, satellite facilities and utility distribution system.
Under the direction of the Watch Engineer, you will operate and maintain chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and related auxiliary equipment. You will also maintain logs, prepare equipment for operations or shutdown conditions, and monitor instrument readings. You will report to the Operations Supervisor.
You will also:
- Participate in the starting, control, operation, shutdown and inspection of chillers, pumps, cooling towers and all associated equipment
- Monitor instrumentation and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for proper operating conditions, determine nature and cause of trouble and perform necessary corrective action to protect personnel, equipment, system integrity and maintain system efficiency and safety
- Prepare logs and other operating records including data collection via plant computer
- Perform regular inspection tours of the plant and distribution system including underground tunnels and electrical power systems
- Operate and perform routine operating maintenance and preventive maintenance, including cleaning of equipment (pumps, water conditioning equipment)
- Perform boiler start-up and control, including burner light-off, adjustments for optimum firing, soot blowing, burner changing and cleaning and other duties
- Assist Watch Engineer as required, with the operation and control of electrical generating equipment, chiller operation and diesel engine operations
- Perform routine operating maintenance, including cleaning of equipment and plant work areas
- Observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices, and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and company standards and, where applicable, local, state, and federal laws
- Must participate in mandatory training and other programs
- Performs other related duties as required
- Participate in emergency response team
What You’ll Bring
- You possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a Valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineer’s License
Additional Details
This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
You must be able to work internally in the physical plant and externally on the facility’s grounds or at satellite facilities; may be required to work overtime - relief, off-shift, and emergency coverage (nights, weekends,) and/or other, as needed
Must be available to travel domestically up to 5%
A desire to possess a Valid CFC-2 and CFC-3 license; or a CFC-universal license
Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license could possibly drive a company vehicle
“C” Watch - Wednesday – Sunday 2PM to 10PM
Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
This position consists of 25% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
May be required to obtain a Second-Class Industrial Wastewater Treatment license
The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and clothing where appropriate because of their work around potential hazards such as loud noise, airborne particles, vibration and hazardous materials. Including but is not limited to, safety eyewear, footwear, hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, specialized clothing and a company issued uniform
Under certain conditions, while working in the plant, may be required to wear a respirator – respirators are required in specified areas, therefore the employee will be issued with and trained in the proper use of this equipment
May require repetitive stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, and carrying, intermittent lifting
Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolds, high-lifts, and in confined spaces
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively
Compensation
Hourly: $55.33 USD
Your position is part of a bargaining unit represented by International Union of Operating Engineers-Local 877. Many of the terms and conditions of your employment, including but not limited to work scheduling, wages, vacation, sick leave, and other benefits, will be governed by a collective bargaining agreement (the “CBA”) between the Company and the union.
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
