Technical Engineer – Development, Onshore Renewables
The energy transition is happening now. At ENGIE, we are building the infrastructure that makes clean power possible — and we need engineers who want their work to matter. This role puts you at the heart of developing onshore wind, solar PV, and battery energy storage projects across the UK and Ireland. You will shape projects from first concept through to construction, contributing directly to a low-carbon future.
What You'll Do
- Screen development sites and provide technical inputs to financial models, including CAPEX and OPEX estimates.
- Lead early-stage and preliminary civil design for solar PV, wind, and BESS projects, covering mounting structures, foundations, tracks, and hard standings.
- Procure and manage site studies, and monitor grid connection requirements and costs.
- Develop employer's requirements for EPC contracts and review tenders during procurement.
- Perform or oversee Basic and Detailed Design, including piling solutions, wind farm roads, and substation buildings.
- Support construction teams through critical document review and owner's engineer activities.
- Conduct technical audits of key equipment at manufacturer facilities and support commissioning and project handover.
What You Bring
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in concept design for solar PV or wind projects.
- Commercial awareness of how technical decisions affect project economics.
- Experience in a project management, lead engineer, or multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, grounded in technical knowledge and judgement.
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
- Experience in Basic or Detailed Design for solar parks, wind farms, or BESS is a strong advantage.
Location
London, United Kingdom. This role is hybrid 3 days a week in the office, combining office-based work with infrequent travel to project sites across the UK and Ireland.
What We Offer
- A stimulating and varied role spanning the full development lifecycle of renewable energy projects.
- Access to a global engineering network supporting the installation of 4 GW of renewables per year.
- A collaborative and friendly work environment, with close ties to international teams across development, construction, and asset management.
- Hybrid working model that supports work-life balance.
- Real career development opportunities within a global energy leader, with a clear path to grow your technical and leadership expertise.
- The chance to work on a diverse portfolio of technologies — wind, solar, and battery storage — giving you breadth and depth in your career.
