Head of Regulation – Flexible Generation

ENGIE is a leader in sustainable energy supply and services. We are united by our purpose of delivering the energy transition and leaving the legacy of a greener future for everyone.

Our purpose is to accelerate the transition towards a net zero economy through reduced energy consumption and more environmentally friendly solutions, reconciling economic performance with a positive impact on people and the planet.

About the role

This is a senior role, reporting to ENGIE’s UK Director of Regulation, Public Affairs, ESG & CSR. You will work closely with senior colleagues in ENGIE’s pumped hydro, BESS and renewables businesses, including Managing Directors. You will also work closely with senior colleagues across Supply & Energy Management and Networks businesses, to understand and represent ENGIE’s interests as a whole.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that relevant future regulatory policies are designed in a way that allows ENGIE to continue to invest with confidence, and operate efficiently. You will also be a key part of the wider regulatory team whose wider purpose is to help ENGIE accelerate the transition to a zero carbon economy. In doing so, you will:

  • Engage with senior officials across Government, including the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and Ofgem to communicate ENGIE’s position on high priority regulatory and public policy changes under consideration.
  • Develop credible and well-evidenced positions, in close collaboration with business stakeholders. Topics of relevance will range from high-level strategic consultations to industry codes.
  • Work closely with the regulatory team and colleagues working across ENGIE’s UK businesses to ensure that ENGIE’s positions are holistic and coherent.
  • Build relationships with colleagues doing similar roles in other jurisdictions, to share best practice and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide written briefings for senior colleagues – including ENGIE’s UK CEO – for external meetings.

About you

We are looking for someone who has at least ten years’ relevant experience, ideally in the energy sector. Relevant experience may include working for a regulator or regulated company.

We are looking for someone who

  • Has proven experience engaging effectively at a senior level internally and externally
  • Has deep understanding of regulatory, policy and market frameworks and how to best navigate them
  • Is commercially astute and customer focussed
  • Is a highly effective communicator, orally and in writing
  • Highly collaborative, with a track record of working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for customers
  • Courageous and empathetic, being willing to challenge where appropriate, but also see things from others’ perspectives
