At ENGIE, we accelerate the energy transition by investing in the infrastructure that powers a sustainable future. The Dinorwig Station Replanting programme is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to modernise one of the UK's most iconic pumped-storage hydroelectric stations over the next decade.

We are looking for a Control & Instrumentation Assistant Engineer to join this landmark project. You will shape modern control system architecture, integrate complex plant interfaces, and help deliver safe, high-performing systems for the upgraded station. Your work will directly support the long-term reliability of a critical national energy asset.

Summary of what you will do

- Provide technical support in developing robust PLC/SCADA/HMI and instrumentation architecture for the upgraded plant systems.

- Coordinate interfaces between control systems, digital governors, excitation/AVR, protection relays, VFSE starters, and station power distribution.

- Review contractor C&I design deliverables, control strategies, and system configurations against technical specifications and standards.

- Plan and support Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, and on-site commissioning of control and instrumentation systems.

- Resolve technical issues during installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and functional safety requirements.

- Support design reviews, safety studies, and hazard assessments related to control and automation systems.

- Align C&I activities with project schedules, risk management, and change control processes alongside the Lead Control Engineer and Technical Project Manager.

What you will bring to the role

- University degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline.

- Strong background in PLC/SCADA/HMI control systems and industrial automation, ideally with Rockwell ControlLogix and FactoryTalk platforms.

- Experience integrating complex control systems and industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and IEC 61850.

- Hands-on experience planning and executing FAT/SAT procedures, site commissioning, and fault-finding.

- Solid understanding of OT/IT interfaces and cybersecurity practices for industrial control environments.

- Working towards chartership or already chartered with the IET, IEEE, or similar professional institution.

- Effective communicator who can challenge contractor submissions constructively while maintaining collaborative relationships.

Location

Dinorwig Power Station, North Wales. This is a full-time on-site role, placing you at the heart of one of the UK's most distinctive and technically fascinating energy facilities.

*You must be eligible to work in the UK and have been a resident in the UK for the last 5 years to apply for this role as it will be subject to National Security Vetting.

What We Offer

- A competitive salary and clear career progression within a major international energy group.

- The chance to work on a diverse, technically stimulating 10-year programme with real engineering depth.

- A friendly, multidisciplinary team environment where collaboration and knowledge-sharing are valued.

- Support for professional development, including chartership and continuous learning opportunities.

- A healthy approach to work-life balance, with wellbeing and flexibility embedded in our culture.

- The opportunity to contribute directly to the UK's energy security and the transition to a low-carbon future.
