ENGIE Laborelec is a research and expertise center focused on electrical power technology, with a team of over 335 employees from different background. We are part of the ENGIE Group, and more particular the newly created entity called ENGIE Research & Innovation. About the team
Laborelec’s Storage Team, part of the Renewables & Urban Department, performs technical consulting services for the ENGIE Group and external clients. The team, consisting of a multi-disciplinary team of experts (chemical, electromechanical) and data scientists, has 3 missions:
1. Anticipate and test new storage technologies (such as redox flow and solid state batteries) – through tests in the Lab and large-scale pilot installations
2. Give ENGIE and external clients technical insight in their battery projects - through writing technical specifications, performing due diligences, acceptance tests
3. Develop battery ageing and state-of-health monitoring tools – through our monitoring product MoniCa.
These projects are often multidisciplinary, combining energy storage, renewable energy technologies, electric mobility smart charging, power network studies & measurements, cyber security, IT solutions, etc. and are therefore executed in strong interaction with multiple teams within Laborelec.
What you’ll be doing
Your responsibilities as Battery Specialist/ Project Engineer
• You rely on your own expertise and coordinate transversally with experts from multiple competence centres
• You lead and participate in the execution of R&D projects and Operational projects in the field of storage, most often in combination with renewable assets
• You manage first of a kind storage projects on customers sites or take the lead implementing battery-related solutions, you’re involved in the complete project cycle from design to implementation
• You establish collaborations with competent partners (internal and external ENGIE) to execute these projects.
• You act as an integrator of different competence domains to contribute to the solution towards the clients.
• You initiate new projects and provide valuable input for R&D roadmaps in the battery and storage domain.
• You bring your own technical expertise to the projects
• You build a close relation with the clients, from the definition of their needs till the delivery of a solution bringing them clear added value
• You effectively communicate project progress, results and references to clients and stakeholders.
• You develop and manage Products and Services in the proposed domains for our customers.
• You lead digital project design and implementation, with the support of the Digital team]

• Have a Master’s degree in electrotechnical or electromechanical engineering (civil or industrial) or a Master’s degree related to Battery technology with a strong interest in implementation/operation.
• Have some experience with energy storage.
• Have a strong customer focus with the ability to understand and make explicit the implicit needs and motivations driving our customers.
• Show tenacity and passion for solving the technical problems that come with implementing new solutions and products
• Have strong communication skills and are not afraid to talk to and engage an audience
• Take initiative and are you team player. Are you able to develop synergies both internally with other competence centers and with external partners (for example, manufacturers, universities and other research centers)
• Master at least two of the three following languages : Dutch, French and English, and you are engaged to reach quickly a fluent level in the third one (other languages are a plus)
• Agree to travel for short missions within Belgium, Europe and outside Europe
