About the role:

  • The primary purpose of the Senior Project Manager role within the UK business unit is to;
  • The daily task management of the project team located in Leeds which includes:
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to PM colleagues to support the delivery of consistent quality standards
  • Ensure the right resource is on the right projects at the right time, acting as an initial escalation point for resource queries for the team
  • Be a key lead in promoting Agile methodology to IT Community and the wider business
  • Take ownership and leadership of any project and ensure their successful delivery against defined criteria of time, cost, quality and benefits realisation (focus on application projects)
  • Work closely with the Business Stakeholder/Sponsor throughout the project lifecycle
  • You will understand the different roles people play across project life cycle and be able to lead agile teams in delivery of large scale solutions.
  • Be responsible from planning through to closure of technical and non-technical project work, of all sizes and scale
  • Maintain the progress of business and technical tasks in such a way that minimises the risks of delay/failure whilst maximising benefit and restricting cost
  • Manage, direct and control IT and business resources employed on the project business
  • Build strong networks within IT and the wider business
  • Understand business strategy and how this can be delivered

Key Accountabilities:

  • Takes responsibility for the definition, documentation & execution of one or more projects, actively participating in all phases of the project.
  • Effectively estimates costs, timescales & resource requirements for the successful delivery of the project(s) to an agreed scope.
  • Ensures that realistic project & quality plans are prepared & maintained & tracks all activities against the plan
  • Setup regular project boards and providing weekly status reports to senior management or other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Monitors costs, timescales & resources used, and takes action where these deviate from agreed tolerances.
  • Escalates project issues related to deviation in scope/quality/timing/budget and dependencies with other projects and provides reporting to IT management, Business partners and steering bodies.
  • Manages the change control procedure gaining agreement for revisions to the project(s) from project sponsors.
  • Adherence to internal processes and risk frameworks in any and all tasks particularly in the area of key project deliverables
  • Drive and direct the justification for change, contributing to both the benefits and the cost analysis based on clear contributions to strategic goals. Gain buy-in from key stakeholders and champion the change on behalf of the sponsor, presenting information for approval at management levels
  • Responsible for driving through decisions/approvals at project control gates
  • Negotiation to secure and then management and direction of the projects resources, including non-IT resource and sub-contracted 3rd parties, needed to deliver a project
  • Responsible for the transition of projects into an operational state, including handover to support functions
  • Take a lead role in Change Management, User Testing and Change & Release Management and Own the transition into business operation
  • Take the role of Business Analyst when required and provide consultancy and guidance within your own project work and to other projects on this topic where appropriate
  • Proactively look for improvements in process/methods/tools and implement these
  • Comply at all times with Engie’s policies and procedures, including health & safety, conduct, security, attendance, equality of opportunity, & time recording
  • Work with and support the Business Sponsor on their requests for change
  • Contribute to proactively lobbying stakeholders to gain buy-in to the project and it’s proposed solution
  • Contribute to the validation of the solution via user testing Deputise for the CIO on project board attendance as required
  • Proactively look for improvements in process, methods or tools across the organisation
  • Take part in project assessments and quality reviews

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record in running agile Projects.
  • Likely to be an IT professional with extensive experience across a range of IT disciplines.
  • Substantial experience in both business & IT Project and Programme management, having a successful track record of delivering large, complex projects or programmes.
  • Some exposure to IT strategy and IT/Enterprise Architecture  
  • Some experience of operational service delivery, in an IT service management environment/ITIL framework.
  • Team and people management experience.
  • Worked extensively within a matrix organisation.
  • Experience of dealing with senior stakeholders and reporting into steering groups.

Qualifications:

  • Expected to be educated to A-level standard and ideally educated to degree level or equivalent but not essential, excellent writing/communication skills are very important in this role
  • Project management – recognised methodology, preferably PRINCE2 and/or MSP Practitioner.
  • Qualification in Agile or SCRUM
  • Chartered membership of a recognised professional body, e.g. APM, BCS, IET
  • Preferably with an IT service management qualification, e.g. ITIL foundation.
