Purpose of the job: 

Provide direction and management for the Gas Consumption & Settlement team to ensure that: 

  • Accurate, validated and complete gas consumption data is available for billing and settlement. 

  • Compliance with gas industry standards for settlement is met, the portfolio of DM metering assets provides accurate and timely data and that appointed agents are performance managed in order to facilitate compliance and provision of this data. 

Implementation and management of gas industry change, management of third-party agent contracts and management of relationships with industry bodies is also the responsibility of the job holder. 

 

Key Accountabilities:  

  • Ensure that all gas industry compliance targets for third party agent and settlement performance are met, co-ordinating activity across Market Operations to ensure that timely gas read data is obtained from all meters and with specific responsibility for obtaining pedestrian reads where there are access issues. 

  • Ensure that all gas consumption data is correctly entered into the settlement process. 

  • Manage contracts and liaise effectively with gas third party agents, monitoring and seeking to improve gas agent performance and operational value. 

  • Manage the operation of the existing DM meter asset portfolio including validation of meter technical data, customer meter related queries and meter compliance issues in line with SLAs, and with timely responses to the Customer Service teams. 

  • Manage the gas disputed reads process. 

  • Manage the validation of gas meter reads and data to ensure that as many sites as possible are billed on actual data. 

  • Management of revised data 

  • Ensure that accurate gas opening reads are used for billing purposes. 

  • Ensure that gas customer consumption data disputes are resolved, working with Account Managers and Customer Service as appropriate. 

  • Ensure that Junifer system exceptions are resolved so that all valid gas consumption data is correctly entered for billing. 

  • Manage the day to day operation of the C3NTINEL system and develop its use internally as a data validation tool. 

  • Manage the processing of Inter Shipper Disputes from a data perspective, validating consumptions proposed by other Shippers and raising ISDs where appropriate. 

  • Assist in the analysis of high reconciliation invoices from Xoserve and settled to billed variances identified by ENGIE, validating consumption and where necessary correcting consumption in Settlement via the use of Requests for Adjustment.  Also includes the management of AQ/SOQs. 

  • Ensure management information is prepared for KPI deadlines. 

  • Manage SPAA, UNC and Xoserve Change Proposals and Modifications relevant to the business.  

  • Manage the relationship between ENGIE, Xoserve and the gas Performance Assurance Committee including being first point of contact for any performance management issues. 

  • Adhere to internal processes and risk frameworks.   

  • Propose and implement changes to systems to improve their ability to accept and validate consumption data. 

  • Provide reports on the quality of data in the system. 

  • Be responsible for the day to day planning and productivity of the team. 

  • Ensure management information is prepared for KPI deadlines. 

  • Adhere to internal processes and risk frameworks.   

  • Maintain and develop process documentation to ensure efficient knowledge transfer throughout the team.

Dimensions of job: 

  • 8 direct reports. 

Responsible for: 

  • Managing, contracts, appointments and monitoring performance of gas Meter Reading Agent. 

  • Managing compliance for Xoserve settlement targets. 

  • Main point of contact for Xoserve and PAC. 

  • Responsible for managing a portfolio of c100 Gas DM Meter Assets. 

  • Responsible for ensuring that accurate and timely settlement data is provided to Xoserve, and for validating and resolving settlement data variances and ISD data proposals. 

  • Validation of all consumption data from 7,000 gas metering points and the accuracy of data for billing purposes.. 

  • Management of site access exceptions for 7,000 Gas metering points. 

  • Resolution of data disputes for non-domestic customers up to multiple million £. 

 

Key relationships: 

  • Internal: All Retail departments, in particular; Line Manager, Customer Service, Sales, Billing, Credit Control, other teams in Market Operations.  

  • External: End-customers, Industry Bodies and third-parties (e.g. service providers) 

 

 

 

 

 

Knowledge and skills:  

  • Understanding of the customer lifecycle and interdependencies between Billing and Market Operations and interfacing departments 

  • Numerical skills

  • Process improvement methodology expertise is beneficial 

  • Good knowledge of industry processes particularly the relevant areas of the UNC and SPAA

Experience:  

  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex and dynamic environment 

  • Management of third party contracts and service level agreements 

  • Previous team leader experience is beneficial  

  • Experience from a similar role within the Energy sector, desirable 

 

Qualifications:  

  • GCSE Maths Grade C (or equivalent) 

  • GCSE English Grade C (or equivalent) 

  • Degree level (or equivalent), preferable
