European Gas/Global LNG Market Analyst
About US (S&EM):
Context:
The Expertise Center Market Analysis (MA) and the Gas Trading platform are looking for a European Gas / Global LNG Market Analyst.
The position sits on the trading floor, embedded within a high-performance team of market analysts, data scientists, meteorologists and developers. The analyst reports to the gas and LNG market analysis team lead, covering horizons from day-ahead to 3–5 years.
Market Analysis is a center of expertise within S&EM. Its mission is to generate rigorous, actionable market intelligence that directly supports ENGIE's commercial and strategic decision-making. The team builds and maintains proprietary fundamental models, develops quantitative tools, and produces market views across gas, LNG, power, emissions, oil and weather. It operates at the frontier between fundamental analysis, data science and trading.
The gas and LNG desk advises traders on European gas market and global LNG dynamics, covering supply-demand balances, infrastructure constraints, price drivers and cross-commodity relationships. The team works under real trading-floor conditions: short decision cycles, material P&L stakes, and a high bar for analytical rigor.
Role:
The Gas / LNG Market Analyst will be responsible for producing directional market views and fundamental analysis in direct support of trading strategies, working in close daily contact with traders on the gas and LNG desks.
Beyond the gas and LNG desks, the analyst will serve as a resource for all trading platforms with a material interest in European gas and LNG dynamics: power trading, the APAC desk based in Singapore, the US desk in Houston, and offices across Italy, Spain, the UK, Australia or Chile. Few organisations in this space can offer a comparable geographic footprint or the breadth of internal client relationships that comes with it.
Core responsibilities include:
· Building and maintaining short- to medium-term supply-demand models for European gas and global LNG markets, integrating infrastructure data, weather, storage, demand response and cross-commodity dynamics
· Developing and owning trading strategy ideas in collaboration with traders, from analytical framing through to execution monitoring
· Monitoring global LNG supply chain developments — liquefaction, shipping, regasification, demand centers — and translating them into actionable market positioning
· Producing structured analytical content (notes, dashboards, presentations) for traders, management and internal clients
· Contributing to and co-developing the team's fundamental modelling platform alongside data scientists and developers
· Actively participating in the team's AI integration roadmap: identifying high-value use cases, prototyping analytical tools, and helping scale best practices across the team
· Collaborating across analytical silos – power, emissions, weather, origination – to build integrated and consistent market views
We offer
· A position at the center of gas and LNG market intelligence, with direct daily exposure to trading decisions in an asset-rich organization
· Integration into a team of experienced analysts with genuine intellectual depth and a strong collaborative culture
· Access to proprietary data infrastructure, best-in-class external data sources, and a growing suite of AI-powered analytical tools
· Real autonomy: you will be expected to own your topics and drive your own research agenda
· A culture that rewards curiosity, technical ambition and commercial instinct in equal measure
· Strong career prospects, with opportunities to grow into specialist or leadership roles locally or internationally
Hard skills:
· Deep knowledge of European gas fundamentals: supply (pipeline, LNG, domestic production), storage dynamics, demand-side response, infrastructure constraints and cross-border flows
· Solid knowledge of global LNG markets: liquefaction, shipping, regasification, demand centers, and price formation
· Strong quantitative modelling skills: gas balance models, optimization/ machine learning/econometrics, scenario simulation – with a preference for auditability and defensibility over complexity
· Proficiency in Python (data manipulation, modelling, visualization); experience with pandas, numpy and data pipelines is expected
· Comfort with large datasets and multiple data sources (ENTSOG, GIE AGS, Refinitiv, Bloomberg, ship-tracking, satellite data)
· Ability to translate analytical conclusions into clear trading propositions, with explicit assumptions and risk framing
Soft skills:
· Commercial mindset: you think in terms of market positioning, not just market description; you have opinions and you defend them
· Communication: able to convey complex analytical conclusions concisely and credibly to traders, senior managers and non-specialist audiences alike
· Collaborative: comfortable operating across disciplines – you work naturally with power analysts, meteorologists, data scientists and developers
· Rigorous and fast: you can produce high-quality, assumption-explicit analysis under time pressure without cutting corners on logic
· Intellectually curious: you follow market developments proactively, question consensus views, and bring original perspectives
· Adaptable: able to shift between deep technical work and high-level strategic framing depending on what the situation demands
Education and professional background:
· Master degree or PhD in relevant area (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc)
· Minimum 5 years experience in European gas or LNG market analysis
· Track record of delivering market views and recommendations under commercial constraints
