Context

Market Analysis is the center of expertise within GBU Supply & Energy Management dedicated to energy market analysis. Integrated within the Energy Management operational domain, its mission is to strengthen understanding of energy market dynamics and support the Group’s strategic decision-making in the context of an accelerating energy transition.

The team combines advanced expertise in energy modeling, economic analysis and long-term forecasting across all energy vectors, including electricity, natural gas, LNG, biomethane, hydrogen and e-fuels. Its work supports both ENGIE’s operational activities, such as price forecasting, supply-demand balancing and asset valuation, and strategic reflections related to energy transition pathways, regulation and market design.

Working for ENGIE Group entities worldwide, the team conducts economic and strategic studies to help internal and external stakeholders better understand and address their strategic and operational challenges. Topics covered include energy market fundamentals, future energy trends, green gases, CCUS, biomass, decentralized production, energy demand projections, climate ambitions and decarbonization pathways.

Within Market Analysis, the Energy Demand Forecast team develops and applies advanced methodologies to model and project long-term energy demand across Europe.

This 6-month internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to strategic studies conducted for ENGIE and public institutions, including the European Commission.

Your Mission

As a member of the Energy Demand Forecast team, you will be fully involved in ongoing studies and projects throughout your internship. Depending on business needs and project priorities, your responsibilities may include:

• Contributing to the development of long-term European energy transition scenarios supporting ENGIE’s strategic planning;
• Modeling long-term energy demand for specific sectors (e.g. aviation, maritime transport) using bottom-up approaches based on equipment stock evolution and technological developments;
• Improving macroeconomic correlations and forecasting assumptions related to GDP, purchasing power and other indicators used in energy demand projections;
• Supporting the development and enhancement of ENGIE’s internal integrated energy demand models;
• Analyzing the impacts of energy transition pathways on electricity, hydrogen, methane, biomass and other energy vectors;
• Preparing analyses, presentations and recommendations for internal stakeholders and external clients.

You will gain hands-on experience with energy system modeling and prospective scenario analysis similar to major European exercises such as RTE’s Futurs Énergétiques 2050 and ADEME’s Transitions 2050.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a curious, analytical and proactive student passionate about energy transition challenges and interested in developing expertise in energy modeling and forecasting.

Hard skills

• Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities;
• Knowledge of energy, climate or economic topics;
• Ability to work with complex datasets and economic models;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint;
• Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R or equivalent;
• Strong synthesis and presentation skills.

Education & Experience

• Currently pursuing a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Energy, Climate, Economics, Engineering, Data Science or a related field;
• Looking for a 6-month internship as part of your academic curriculum;
• Previous academic or project experience related to energy systems, economics, modeling or quantitative analysis would be a plus.

Languages

• Fluent in English;
• Fluent in French.
