Context:

 

The Carbon Accounting & Steering Team, in Sustainability department, of S&EM is looking for an intern for the position of “Junior Carbon Operator”.

 

The Sustainability Department aims to enable S&EM and stakeholders to have a positive impact on people, planet and profit & to build a sustainable future. The department is composed of a mix of junior to senior experts, fostering transversality and working in project mode with lots of autonomy, to jointly address key projects close to business. 

 

The Sustainability Department is organized under several operational streams, fostering transversality and working in project mode with a lot of autonomy, to jointly address key projects close to the business:

  • Sustainable Strategy - Rebuild a strategy function anchored in projects, acting as sparring partner for the business and driving S&EM’s global sustainable ambition.
  • Carbon Accounting and Steering - Develop carbon expertise as a new operational métier, providing training and tools to empower business and front teams.
  • ​​​​​​​Environmental, Social and Governance - Embed responsibility across value chains by applying high standards for people and planet
  • Communication - Forge a strong S&EM identity internally & externally, while creating synergies between communication and strategic developments led by the Executive Committee.
  • Green Energy Acceleration – Speed up the deployment of renewables and flexible assets to deliver 24/7 carbon-free energy, empowering S&EM and its clients in their decarbonization journey.

 

 

Role:

 

As Junior Carbon Operator you will have a key hands-on role within the Carbon team.

Your missions will be to participate to the development of the Carbon expertise for S&EM and the Group,

the deployment and steering of the Carbon Budgeting process across the business platforms, supported by the design

and deployment of the Carbon Accounting tool.

You will support the team in building the methods, processes, networks of contributors, codes and interfaces related

to carbon operations in close cooperation with the business owners and carbon experts.

 

This job description is not exhaustive and could evolve in accordance with needs expressed by the

management or the organization. In particular, the effective perimeter of responsibilities and contributions

detailed hereafter may be adapted according to an efficient allocation and delegation between the Carbon team members, with regards to the on-going development and tooling of Carbon missions and processes.

 

 

Main missions:

 

  • Contribute to the digitalization and automation of the carbon accounting processes through integrated digital solutions, ensuring data quality, traceability, developing analytical tools, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate carbon insights into the intra- and inter-year business strategic steering.
  • Support strategic studies through research, data collection, and preparation of simple, clear reports and presentations.

 

 

Hard skills:

 

  • Strong analytical way of thinking & data crunching (capable to handle large data sets)
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Proficiency in data analysis, with tools like PowerBI, Excel, …
  • Knowledge in DataIKU, Jupyter notebook
  • General background on Carbon Accounting (Greenhouse Gas, Life Cycle Analysis, Energetical Mix, Guarantee of Origin mechanism)

 

Soft skills:

 

  • You have a strong personal sensitivity to energy transition  
  • You are well organized and diligent in on-time calendar execution, with high quality standards and the agility to inherit & prioritize urgencies. 
  • You have strong communication & presentation skills, and the capacity to take a step back to simplify things with pragmatism. 
  • You are pro-active and you have a curious attitude, with good autonomy and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • You can identify areas of improvement and potential solutions, taking the initiative to implement these changes.
  • You are a team-player with the capacity to work in a multi-cultural environment. 
  • You have strong analytical skills, structured mindset and pay attention to details. 

 

 

Education and professional background:

 

  • Pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or Business School and looking for an end of studies internship of 4 to 6 months.
  • Educational background in the energy sector is a plus

 

Languages:

  • You speak & write fluently ENGLISH & FRENCH
  • Other languages are considered as a plus.

Location:

 

This job position is located in Paris. Travelling to other locations is not required for this position.
