Business Developer Europe

Flexibility Behind the Meter

  • Global Business Unit : Supply & Energy Management / One B2B

1. Context & Role Purpose

ENGIE is accelerating the deployment of decentralized flexibility solutions for B2B clients across Europe, supported by the creation of Flex Hub designed to centralize expertise and digital capabilities. These Flex Hub aim to industrialize the management of behind-the-meter assets and optimize value creation across multiple markets and clients.

The Business Developer Europe plays a key role in structuring and scaling these solutions, with a strong focus on behind-the-meter BESS and industrial demand-side management (DSM).

2. Missions & Responsibilities

A. Commercial Development – Large Industrial

  • Prospect and qualify large industrial and with significant energy footprints, often operating across multiple European countries.
  • Identify client needs related to flexibility use cases: BESS behind the meter, DSM and potentially EV smart charging and PV optimization.
  • Build tailored commercial proposals including technical sizing, business models, value sharing mechanisms and profitability analysis.
  • Lead end-to-end commercial processes
  • Negotiate and close complex commercial agreements such as flexibility revenue sharing, performance-based contracts, or storage services.

B. Offer Structuring & Go-to-Market

  • Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of ENGIE’s European behind-the-meter BESS and flexibility offers.
  • Participate in the definition of pricing models, contractual frameworks and financial business cases.
  • Work closely with Product, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Engineering and Operations teams to ensure robust and scalable offers.

C. Partnership Development

  • Identify, structure and secure partnerships with OEMs, EPCs, system integrators, EV charging solution providers, aggregators and digital/IoT players.
  • Manage strategic partnerships over time and ensure sustainable value creation for ENGIE and its clients.

D. Pipeline Management & Market Intelligence

  • Build, manage and prioritize a European pipeline of commercial opportunities.
  • Monitor market trends including regulatory frameworks, electricity market mechanisms, incentive schemes, energy price signals and competitive landscape.
  • Prepare investment, commercial and steering committee documentation to support decision-making.

3. Required Profile

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy, Economics or Business.
  • 5–10 years of experience in business development within flexibility, BESS, EV smart charging, EMS/PV or energy optimization.
  • Strong track record selling complex solutions to large industrial clients; multi-country European experience is a strong asset.

Hard Skills

  • Strong knowledge of European electricity markets and their mechanisms (wholesale markets, capacity mechanisms, balancing and ancillary services).
  • Deep understanding of behind-the-meter BESS economics and flexibility value stacking.
  • Ability to structure pricing models, business cases and contractual frameworks.
  • Strong commercial negotiation and financial analysis capabilities.

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and structuring mindset.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with senior industrial clients.
  • Ability to lead complex negotiations in an international context.
  • Comfortable working in matrix and cross-functional organizations.

Languages

  • Fluent English required.
  • Additional European language (French, German or Dutch) is a plus.

4. Key Success Indicators

  • Successful signing of behind-the-meter BESS and flexibility contracts with clients.
  • Growth and conversion rate of the European commercial pipeline.
  • Contribution to the successful deployment of standardized European Flex Hub-based offers.
  • Quality and durability of strategic partnerships.
