  1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The FP&A Lead supports the Head of FP&A in delivering key planning and reporting cycles. The role is responsible for the preparation and coordination of financial forecasts, budgets, and performance reports. It also includes a mentoring role towards Business Controller staff, ensuring quality and timely deliverables.

 

The key responsibilities of FP&A Lead will be, but not limited to, the following:

 

Operational Planning & Forecasting:

  • Coordinate the preparation and review of Best Estimate submissions for centralized entities; oversee and assess reasonability of decentralized submissions and upload into relevant systems.
  • Support budget tracking with regular interaction with budget holders.
  • Cash flow projections and updates based on YTD identified variances.
  • Risk and opportunity identification and monitoring based on YTD results, variances to budget and prior year.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Prepare and review monthly variance analysis with identification of main drivers by effect.
  • Deliver timely and accurate financial analysis to support business decisions.
  • Ensure actuals vs. budget, prior year and. forecast variances are well-explained and documented.
  • Validate data consistency across systems (SAP, Smart, MDT) and businesses (macroeconomic data).
  • Prepare reports for EBIT, Capex, Selling, General and Admin (SG&A), Cash Flows (CFFO), and other key KFIs for management dialogue and stakeholder engagements.
  • Coordination of quarterly Support Function Data Request (SFDR )and performance (Fuel for Growth (FFG)/PerfOp) reporting.
  • Contribute to annual Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive(CSRD) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) reporting processes for responsible entities.

 

Annual Budget & MTP Support :

  • Lead budget preparation and ensure timely updates with inputs from all stakeholders for all responsible entities.
  • Conduct reasonability assessment of the budget in comparison to previous MTP submissions.
  • Track consistency of assumptions applied across entities.
  • Track budget execution and conduct regular review meetings with budget owners.
  • Assist in preparation and upload of budget templates and MDT schedules.
  • Liaise with local entities to validate assumptions.
  • Ensure smooth process execution in collaboration with the Head of FP&A.

Mentorship & Collaboration :

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and quality control for Business Controller FP&A team members.
  • Share best practices and support knowledge development.
  • Engaging with operation teams to understand business operations, financial impacts and significant adjusting events.
  • Escalate risks, delays, or issues proactively to the Head of FP&A.

  1. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education:

  • CA(SA)/CIMA or NQF equivalent.

Language:

  • English: excellent communication skills spoken, written and verbal.

IT:

  • High degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Enterprise Resource Planning applications (SAP or equivalent).
  • Advanced level excel skills.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years post article experience or experience in mid-senior finance position: Accounting or Business Analysis/Reporting, preferably in a renewable sector or a large multinational company, with bottom up budget preparation.
  • Strong business and financial acumen (understanding of key operational and business indicators driving financial performance e.g. gross margin, profit and cash flow).
  • Knowledge of IFRS as required and applied to the IPP business.
  • Familiar with working within a multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, capability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels.
  • Ability to act independently to prioritize, initiate, resolve and complete actions required to take the business forward to meet goals.
  • Works well under pressure and time sensitive environment.
