3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
|
|
The FP&A Business Controller involves preparing and analysing financial data, supporting forecasting and budgeting processes, and ensuring high-quality, timely inputs for reporting. The position works closely with the FP&A Lead, from whom it receives functional guidance and coaching, contributing to both business performance analysis and professional development.
The key responsibilities of FP&A Business Controller will be, but not limited to, the following:
Reporting & Analysis

- Prepare monthly variance analysis with identification of main drivers by effect (e.g., volume, price, cost).
- Assist with cashflow projections in collaboration with the FP&A Lead.
- Run reports from MDT to support financial analysis and variance identification.
- Prepare financial inputs for monthly reporting, analysis includes EBIT, Capex, Selling, General and Admin (SG&A), and cash flows (CFFO).
- Conduct variance analysis (actual vs. budget, prior year and forecast) with guidance from the FP&A Lead.
- Assist in preparing reports and analysis for management dialogue and stakeholder engagements.
- Support the FP&A Lead in the coordination of quarterly Support Function Data Request (SFDR) and performance (Fuel for Growth (FFG)/Perf Op) reporting.
- Contribute to annual Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) reporting processes for responsible entities.
Planning & Forecasting

- Support the monthly Best Estimate process for centralized and decentralized entities.
- Assist in the preparation of forecast submissions.
- Validate data consistency across reporting tools (SAP, Smart, MDT).
- Support the review of monthly trial balances and identification of key variances and investigation with the Accounting team.
Budgeting & Control

- Contribute to the annual budget and MTP processes.
- Assist in updating and maintaining budget templates.
- Help validate assumptions and ensure the accuracy of data submitted for centralised and decentralised entities.
- Participate in the upload of budgets into SMART and completion of MDT schedules.
- Monitor budget execution and assist in project cost allocation (GET).
Collaboration & Development

- Engage with operations and functional teams to understand business drivers and gather financial inputs.
- Actively collaborate with junior and senior team members to enhance knowledge and practices.
- Seek continuous development with support from the FP&A Lead.

5. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
|
|
Education
- Finance related Degree or NQF equivalent (BCom or equivalent).
Language
- English: excellent communication skills spoken, written and verbal.
IT
- High degree of skill in Business Computing Applications such as Word Processors, Spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Enterprise Resource Planning applications (SAP or equivalent).
- Intermediate - Advanced level excel skills.
Experience
- Minimum 5-6 years working experience in Finance : Accounting or Business Analysis/Reporting, preferably in a renewable sector or a large multinational company, with bottom up budget preparation.
- Good understanding of key operational and business indicators driving gross margin, profit and cash flow.
- Experience in monthly Trial Balance review and identification and investigation of key variances.
- Familiar with working within a multi-cultural environment.
- Excellent communication skills, capability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels.
- Ability to prioritize, initiate, resolve and complete actions required to take the business forward to meet goals.
