What You Can Expect
As an Environmental Compliance Intern at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA, you'll delve into the essential functions of environmental compliance. Throughout your internship, you'll gain invaluable experience in various aspects, including testing, sampling, performance standards, permitting, and reporting requirements. Your primary responsibility will involve assisting in tracking and documenting tasks to ensure continuous compliance. In the event of any non-compliance, you'll work alongside our team to promptly report deviations and implement corrective measures.
Expect each day to be a learning opportunity in the realm of environmental engineering and compliance. You'll actively participate in sample collection, testing procedures, and field observations. Moreover, you'll refine your skills in documenting and logging observations and results. Additionally, you'll delve into data management techniques for compliance, permitting, audits, and other related aspects. We have a variety of possible projects selected that will make this an educational opportunity for a variety of majors and interests.
Our office operates within standard business hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekend or after-hours work expected. This internship spans the Spring-Fall semesters, concluding on December 31, 2025. We provide part-time, flexible scheduling during the semester, while full-time commitment is sought for the summer term. Additional Details
- This role requires attendance at a worksite
- Microsoft Office skills: basic Word, OneNote and Excel
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- Must be able to detect and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting
- Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
Compensation
Salary Range: $20.00 – $32.00 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
