What You Can Expect
ENGIE North America is seeking a High Voltage Electrician to join our Team at the University of Iowa Campus. This will be a local position with no travel. You will be a part of a team that is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of all utility plants and utility distribution networks on the University of Iowa Main and Oakdale campuses. You must have a current Iowa Journeyman Electrician license Class A or B. . The most critical aspect of this job is safety. Yours, your teams, and our customers on campus. We are looking for an electrician that can work safely and efficiently, and takes pride in getting the job done right the first time.
Daily you will be performing preventative maintenance and repair work on campus, You will ensure all work is performed consistently with Engie’s culture of physical safety, process safety, and psychological safety for all staff, contractors, service providers, and stakeholders. You will be determining jobsite work sequences and the safety procedures required for each task. You will work with various team members to procure materials, coordinates outages, and complete work by places systems back into service. You will be performing and documenting pre-job hazard assessments and provide pre-job briefs as needed. Daily you will be completing Installs, troubleshooting, maintaining, calibrating, and repairing electric utility substation and distribution systems including but not limited to medium voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, transformers, cabling systems, and production plant electrical motors, starters, and controls up through 15kV. You will be Interpreting and maintaining wiring diagrams, schematics, updating system logs, drawings, and documentation on utility systems.
What You’ll Bring
- Required to have a current Class A or B Electrician’s license valid in the State of Iowa
- A minimum of a High school diploma or GED, and completion of a formal Apprenticeship
- Four (4) years of experience in the trade, inclusive of apprenticeship
- Two (2) years must be working with high voltage (over 600 volts through 15kV) in an electric utility, power plant, or industrial environment
- Knowledge of equipment and methods used in general industrial facility or utility maintenance work
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices associated with utility or industrial operations, including those for working around high voltage equipment and the ability to do so with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of electric utility systems and equipment
- Knowledge of tools and methods necessary to troubleshoot and maintain electric utility equipment
- Knowledge of the trade occupational hazards and safety precautions while working in confined spaces, aerial or elevated locations, extreme temperatures, excavations, and other environmental-caused conditions
- Knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, and safety programs as governed by rules, regulations, and guidelines of local, state, and national electrical and safety codes, equipment manufacturers, and others
- Ability to troubleshoot effectively and complete repairs with a high degree of accuracy.
Additional Details
- This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
- This role requires you to be on-call (rotational) and able to respond within one (1) hour when called out
- Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license/clean driving record. The safe operation of company vehicles is required
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- Required to have a home or personal telephone
- Ability to perform basic math computations
- Ability to maintain records and system documentation
- Ability to analyze system problems, recommend and implement system changes
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with other department personnel, vendors and suppliers, students, staff, and the general public
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
- Ability to use a company computer, and work with standard software applications
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting up to 100 lbs.
- Must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (underground utility vaults and tunnels; small, enclosed areas and the like) as required
- Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to; fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses

Compensation
Salary Range: $30.00 – $43.51 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency or on-call pay.
