What You Can Expect

ENGIE North America is seeking a Chilled Water Systems Tech I for a critical role on our University of Iowa team. In this position, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating, as well as performing preventative maintenance and repair tasks on the chilled water plant(s). This role is essential for providing a high-quality experience for our clients. Reporting to the Chilled Water Plant Manager, this position is located on the beautiful University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA.

 

Your day will begin with a safety or hand-off meeting, where you will be briefed on the status of the equipment and any issues that may have arisen during the previous shift. Following this, you will oversee the operation and maintenance of turbines, centrifugal chillers, pumps, electric motors, tower fans, and related equipment.

 

Key responsibilities include assisting in the installation and repair of pressure piping for compressed air, water, steam, domestic water, condenser water, chilled water, and condensate. Additionally, you will support the general maintenance of equipment such as chiller tube bundles, heat exchangers, tower fans, gearboxes, drive shafts, pumps, valves, air compressors, and all other plant-related equipment.  These tasks will require utilization of hoisting and rigging tools to move heavy equipment, and proper application of power and hand tools to perform repairs.

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required
  • This role requires a minimum of two years of experience. Which can be a combination of education or experience that involves machinery, equipment and control systems related to utility or production plants 
  • Ability to work on call, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • You must be able to be on location at the University within one (1) hour when designated on call. 
  • After three (3) months of service, demonstrate proficiency in using the computer control system for plant operations and the building interface control system across all shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).
  • You will demonstrate after six (6) months of service the ability to determine when adjustments and repairs are necessary according to load requirements and or equipment problems 
  • You have the ability to obtain a Universal chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification after one (1) year of employment 
  • You have the ability to perform mathematical computations 
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively digitally, verbally, and in writing
  • You have the ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

 

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
  • You must possess a valid state issued driver’s license with a clean driving record; Operation of company vehicles is required
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • You must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication
  • You are capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting
  • You are capable of performing repetitive motions as required
  • You are required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
  • You must be physically capable of entering and working in a confined space (crawl spaces, shafts, small enclosed areas, pipes and the like) as required
  • You must be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not exposed to weather conditions

 

 

Compensation

Salary Range:  $22.36 - $32.73 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan and emergency or on-call pay.
