What You Can Expect

As the Engineering Intern at University of Iowa you will be responsible for supporting ENGIE’s Central Capex and Major Partnerships Team, concentrated on various technical engineering measures for The University of Iowa’s District Energy System (DES) as well as other DES’s for which the Team is responsible. The ideal candidate has an interest in obtaining practical experience within energy infrastructure. You will be reporting to the Senior Engineer. This internship will work term will be from June 1, 2026 – August 21, 2026.

 

 

In this role your key responsibilities everyday will be:

  • Assist the Central Capex and Major Partnerships Engineering team as assigned
  • Consolidate process data of the District Energy System to support decisions about infrastructure investments, equipment upgrades and to support expansion planning
  • Collaborate in other work assignments including feasibility assessments, optimization and energy savings analyses, equipment accounting and organization, design plan reviews, and attending design meetings
  • Potential project work will cover resiliency assessments, capacity roadmaps, hydronic delta-T analyses, decarbonization studies, procurement and sourcing of utilities, and implementation and engineering acumen to support similar areas

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at University of Iowa
  • Minimum of two (2) years of completed course work within Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree program required; Graduate or PhD level students also accepted
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel – specifically Excel for energy accounting, modeling, and forecasting. 
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), preferably AutoCAD software
  • Experience with reviewing technical engineering drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Proficient with engineering economics and cost estimating
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and instrumentation including knowledge of sensors, transducers, and signal types (voltage, current loops)
  • Familiarity with PID concepts, feedback loops, and simple system behavior
  • Ability to create or modify basic ladder logic and perform simple troubleshooting

 

Additional Details

  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester
  • This role requires attendance at a worksite
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
  • 10-20 hours per week, additional hours/weeks may be available based on business needs and will be discussed in advance with supervisor

 

 

Compensation

Hourly Range:  $22.50 – 25.50 USD hourly

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
