What You Can Expect
As the Water Distribution and Wastewater Compliance Coordinator, you will oversee the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of campus potable water and wastewater utility systems within an ENGIE-managed environment. This role helps ensure safe, reliable utility service while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations and supporting ENGIE's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and sustainability.
You'll partner with operations teams, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), regulatory agencies, and campus stakeholders to support water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater management, and environmental compliance programs. Through proactive system oversight, compliance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives, you'll help protect public health, environmental resources, and the long-term performance of critical utility infrastructure.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as Operator in Charge for campus drinking water distribution systems, establishing standards for system operations, maintenance, documentation, and regulatory compliance
- Ensure the reliable delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water by monitoring system performance, troubleshooting operational issues, and coordinating maintenance and repair activities
- Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs for potable water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure
- Plan, coordinate, and support system shutdowns, maintenance activities, capital projects, upgrades, and commissioning efforts
- Conduct or oversee fire hydrant flushing, fire flow testing, stormwater system maintenance, outfall inspections, and stormwater intake inspections
- Maintain accurate operational records and support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including the Safe Drinking Water Act
- Partner with ENGIE Environmental Compliance, EHS, and regulatory agencies to support inspections, environmental reporting, stormwater management initiatives, and sustainability programs
- Respond to water system emergencies, including main breaks, pressure loss, and water quality events, coordinating response efforts and stakeholder communications
- Provide technical guidance to field personnel and campus stakeholders while identifying opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and cost performance
What You’ll Bring
- Valid State Water Distribution Operator License (Grade 3), Valid Wastewater Operator Certification required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Utility Management, or a related field or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience supporting water distribution, wastewater collection, and stormwater systems
- Minimum five (5) years of experience supporting campus, municipal, utility, industrial, or district energy infrastructure operations
- Experience working in a regulated utility or industrial environment
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, including compliance program administration and documentation
- Ability to interpret technical, operational, and regulatory requirements and apply them to system operations and maintenance activities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with operations teams, engineering partners, municipal agencies, customers, and other stakeholders
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Additional Details
- You must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record to drive company vehicles while on campus
- You must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- This role requires daily attendance at worksite
- Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment and portable radio communication
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs)
- Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
- Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals
- Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses
- The position consists of work that is both indoors and outdoors and may expose the employee to weather conditions
Compensation
Hourly Range: $30.43 - $46.60 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
