As our Steamfitter I at The University of Iowa, perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of utility equipment and piping systems, and associate structures for the distribution of steam, condensate, chilled water, domestic water, and compressed air from the generation plant to the University's individual building mechanical rooms.
You will:
- Maintain, repair and install distribution piping systems including steam, condensate, heating hot water, chilled water, domestic water, and compressed air
- Maintain, repair, and install system components such as valves, fire hydrants, expansion joints, piping systems, Steam Meters, traps, pumps, fans and associated mechanical equipment
- Operate distribution system valves to facilitate repairs or construction; perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, read equipment manuals, identify repair material
- Perform preventive maintenance work on all associated equipment and structures
- Work with the components of the following systems: pumps, fans, air compressors, auxiliary equipment, expansion joints, traps, gauges, and valves
- Operate and troubleshoot steam pressure reducing stations
- Operate pipe threading machines and use associated hand or power tools
- Operate distribution valves for shutdown and repair of various pipeline systems
- Complete lockout & tag out of equipment and distribution systems
- Perform system testing and correctly start and warm up utility systems to protect equipment and co-workers
- Inspect and clean distribution structures, utility equipment and facilities in all areas of the utility distribution systems
- Maintain safe working conditions in accordance with site rules, policies and practices of local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum one (1) year experience in mechanical system maintenance in steam fitting, plumbing, heating, or equivalent
Additional Details
- This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis
- Must be available to travel domestically up to 5% of the time
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record; Will drive company vehicle
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
- This position consists of 75% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions
- Experience in the trade, including apprenticeship, where you have worked with steam at pressures greater than 90 psi
- Must have personal cell phone
- You will be subject to 24-hour emergency call
- You have knowledge of safe work procedures
- Welding certification is good to have
- Must be able to work in confined spaces, on elevated work platforms and in extreme temperatures
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks, and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 100 lbs.)
- Carry out other duties as assigned
Compensation
Hourly Range: $24.38 – $35.00 USD annually
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
