What You Can Expect

As an Electrician II with ENGIE North America, you will perform skilled electrical work supporting the University of Iowa’s campus utility and central plant systems. Your work will help maintain the electrical infrastructure serving world-class medical care, lifesaving research, Division I athletics, and classrooms educating the next generation.

This is a stable, year-round position offering 40 hours per week with no routine overnight travel. You will join a safety-first, veteran-friendly environment where you can expand your experience with electrical distribution, high-voltage systems, renewable energy operations, and automation technologies.

Reporting to the High Voltage Shop Supervisor, you will work alongside an experienced team responsible for maintaining reliable power distribution and electrical system performance across the University of Iowa campus.

What You Will Do

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, equipment, controls, lighting, and instrumentation across campus utility and production environments
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and repairs on switchgear, breakers, motors, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and related electrical equipment
• Support the operation, testing, maintenance, and repair of medium-voltage systems ranging from 600V to 15kV under the guidance of High-Voltage Electricians
• Diagnose electrical and control-system issues, including those involving motor controls, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation to safely plan and complete assigned work
• Coordinate work sequences and planned outages while accurately documenting maintenance, inspections, and repairs in accordance with established procedures
• Participate in scheduled and compensated on-call rotations to respond to utility outages, restore power to critical campus customers, or support occasional pre-scheduled off-hours maintenance activities

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
• Current journey-level electrician license issued by Iowa or a state with applicable Iowa reciprocity, including Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, or Wyoming, with the ability to obtain the appropriate Iowa license as required
• Minimum two (2) years of hands-on experience as a journey-level electrician applying electrical theory, troubleshooting electrical systems, and maintaining or repairing electrical equipment
• Working knowledge of electrical codes, utility standards, safety regulations, and electrical hazard precautions
• Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
• Ability to use electrical testing and measurement equipment and maintain accurate maintenance and technical documentation
• Experience gained through commercial, industrial, utility, institutional, military, or other technically regulated electrical environments

Additional Details

• This role requires on-site attendance at the designated worksite on a daily basis
• Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Must be physically capable of safely performing essential job functions, including:
  • Hearing and understanding audible alarms, detecting  changes in equipment noise levels, and using portable radio communication
  • Capable of frequently standing, walking, balancing, sitting, climbing ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required, kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs)
  • Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
• Must have eyesight corrected to at least 20/40 to accurately read and interpret instruments, gauges, diagrams, and technical manuals
• Must be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses
• Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Compensation

Salary Range: $33.41 – $51.20 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
