What You Can Expect

As an IT Systems Engineer supporting ENGIE North America’s University of Iowa operations in Iowa City, you will provide hands-on technical support for users supporting utility operations and administrative functions. You will serve as a local IT presence for day-to-day business computing needs, ensuring employees have reliable access to systems, hardware, applications, and collaboration tools required to perform their work safely and efficiently.

 

You will support a broad range of technologies in an office and plant-adjacent environment, including desktops, laptops, printers, Microsoft 365 applications, and collaboration tools. You will work closely with ENGIE’s central IT teams, local Operational Technology and Industrial Control Systems partners, and University IT when needed. This role requires strong customer focus, technical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage issues independently while maintaining clear communication and documentation.

 

Reporting to the Distribution Plant Manager, your roles and responsibilities include:

 

  • Provide technical support for end users, including password resets, hardware issues, software installations, and desktop or laptop troubleshooting
  • Respond to user-reported issues with a customer-focused approach and resolve problems efficiently
  • Image and deploy laptops, support user migrations, and manage hardware refreshes
  • Support Microsoft Teams room devices and on-site printer systems
  • Coordinate with users to assess computing needs and order appropriate hardware
  • Prioritize and manage support requests based on severity and business impact
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to reduce recurring issues
  • Take ownership of critical issues with proactive communication through resolution
  • Maintain accurate contact lists and alert documentation for team and customer communications
  • Assist in developing and improving help desk processes and procedures
  • Collaborate with ENGIE OT and ICS teams as needed and provide limited remote support to other ENGIE sites in North America
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for urgent issues when required
  • Follow all ENGIE policies, procedures, and security standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, information systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting personal computers, users, and networks
  • Strong customer service mindset with proven problem resolution skills
  • Experience supporting Windows 10 and 11, Microsoft Office 365, VPN, remote access tools, and basic networking
  • Familiarity with WAN connectivity concepts and multi-tiered application support
  • Experience working with help desk or problem management systems
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical certifications or formal training in computer hardware or networking helpful

 

Additional Details

  • This role requires Full-time onsite attendance five days per week in an office environment
  • Subject to 24-hour emergency call rotation for local support
  • May require overtime for after-hours setup, deployment, or incident response
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

 

Compensation

Salary Range: $88,800 – $136,045 USD annually

 

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

 

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors. 

 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
