As an Electrician I at ENGIE North America, you will perform skilled electrical work supporting the University of Iowa’s campus utility and plant systems. You will install, maintain, and repair electrical infrastructure that powers world class medical care saving lives, leading research breakthroughs, Division I athletic programs and classrooms teaching the next generation. You will be part of a skilled team responsible for ensuring reliable power distribution and system performance across the University’s facilities, helping ENGIE maintain efficient, sustainable operations for years to come.
Reporting to the High Voltage Shop supervisor, your roles and responsibilities include:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and controls across utility and production environments at The University of Iowa.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on switchgear, breakers, motors, lighting, and instrumentation.
- Support operation and repair of medium voltage systems (600V-15kV) under the guidance of High Voltage Electricians.
- Diagnose issues in motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and building automation systems.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Plan work sequences, coordinate outages, and document maintenance activity.
- Participate in scheduled on-call rotations for maintenance coverage as needed.
What You’ll Bring
- This role requires a minimum education level of a High School Diploma or GED.
- State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license.
- Knowledge of electrical theory, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with electrical codes, utility standards, safety regulations, and hazard precautions.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, perform precision measurements, and maintain accurate documentation.
Additional Details
- This role requires attendance at a worksite on a daily basis.
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license/clean driving record.
- Must be physically capable to hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of equipment and portable radio communication.
- Capable of frequently standing; walking; balancing; sitting; climbing (ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required); kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs).
- Capable of performing repetitive motions as required.
- Required to have eyesight corrected at 20/40 to accurately read and interpret such as but not limited to instruments, gauges, and manuals.
- Must be physically capable of wearing protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses.
- This position consists of 15% of outdoor work, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.
Compensation
Hourly Range: $37.00 – $47.00 USD hourly
This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
