The Business Developer, Hydrogen Origination & Partnerships is responsible for originating and closing on Green H2 and sustainable fuel offtake opportunities. The individual will structure the initial business plan to meet the client’s needs and contribute to establishing the necessary industrial partnerships to achieve this objective.

 

The individual will ideally have experience in the mid-stream transport, chemical process technical sales, industrial gas large plants, Ammonia, Methanol, or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industries, and have ideally worked on large long-term contracts. Alternatively, a background in power or natural gas related projects would be considered for the appropriate candidate.

This position can sit in Houston, TX and will report to the VP of Hydrogen Project Development.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Identify, Develop, and take ownership of creating opportunities with partners, for Hydrogen (and Hydrogen derivative) opportunities
  • Connect and engage with selected opportunities to enter into long term projects and assure all resources are in place to deliver results
  • Lead prospecting efforts and work across the development and technical teams to optimize the project structure to return the highest value to client and developer
  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of key business case drivers related to tax credit and compliance markets (IRA, LCFS, REDII)
  • Develop project through internal governance processes. Is the point person until clear hand off to Project Development is initiated
  • Originate, develop, maintain, and expand relationships with all levels of a project stakeholders (ENGIE, Client, Community) as needed
  • Relationship building with ENGIE NA teams
    • Stays current in understanding of how regulatory and political environments influence our Hydrogen activity
    • Builds strong, mutually beneficial relationships with other ENGIE business development team members (local and global)
    • Builds strong relationships with ENGIE Project and Execution team(s) as well as other internal entities and functional groups knowledge
  • Other duties as assigned

 

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree or four year degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Business Administration or Economics required 
  • Masters of Engineering or Business Administration preferred
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the petrochemical and/or refining industry ideally with
  • An aptitude for originating, structuring and closing petrochemical and/or refining deals
  • Deep knowledge of the petrochemical and/or refining markets
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and to understand legal, finance, tax, operational issues and conclusions
  • The ability to develop strong business relationships through problem-solving, strategic-thinking and negotiation skills
  • Ability to prepare and present business cases to senior management regarding new markets and opportunities; possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to obtain buy-in and adapt to change
  • Ability to zoom strategic to tactical and back
  • Possesses an entrepreneurial mindset – excels in driving clarity and results and working in an independent and self-guided manner
  • Displays a sense of urgency– sets achievable milestones
  • High degree of comfort in assuming personal responsibility, but a ready collaborator
  • Understands financial modeling, risk management, and commercial structuring
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
  • Attention to detail – keep and maintain database

 

Additional Information/Conditions:

  • Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
  • Must be available to travel up to 30% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing

  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

  • Salary Range: $120,700-$307,190 USD, annually 
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors 
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
