The Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) business unit is the fully integrated trading arm of the ENGIE Group. GEMS teams manage a large and highly diversified energy portfolio, including electricity, natural gas, biomass, LNG and other fuels, CO2 and environmental products, and provide a range of trading risk management solutions to all types of market participants in Europe, Asia and in the US. GEMS manages the B2B supply business within ENGIE, including supply contracts and Power Purchase Agreements.

 

Algorithmic Power Trading Data Science Advisor leads the development of our forecasts and optimization algorithms.

 

This position is located in Houston, TX and reports to Vice President, Gas and Power Trading.

What you’ll do:

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and streamline forecast models for power markets, including price, production, DART, etc.
  • Analyze data from our databases, identifying patterns and trends, and extracting insights to support trading
  • Manage and collaborate on projects with external consultants/universities, focused on the development of new methodologies and approaches
  • Research and internalize new advancements and breakthroughs in the field, assuring the group is in touch with state-of-art
  • Assess and benchmark in-house and 3rd party forecasts, identifying areas of improvement
  • Well-organized, methodical, and systematic in their approach to operations and technical problem-solving
  • Adept at understanding complex systems and interactions, including the ability to sort through dynamic datasets to analyze key indicators, find potential errors, and notice deviations from the norm
  • Demonstrably competent at dealing with numbers, including mental arithmetic and written calculations. Preferably, showing an intuitive understanding of some higher math (e.g., derivative/integral calculus, probability and statistics)
  • Enthusiastic about the challenges and opportunities of sustaining a culture of compliance and operational risk management
  • Able to confidently communicate with senior executives and business counter-parties as a primary representative of the firm
  • Able to demonstrate well-developed critical thinking skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient working with computers and software, including the use of spreadsheets, formulas, and functions. Experience coding in VBA and SQL is a strong plus

What you bring:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in a relevant area (Engineering, Computer Science, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, …) preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar or related role (not necessarily in the power industry)
  • A minimum of 7 years business experience
  • Strong Data Science skills, especially using techniques such as regressions, neural networks, time series, decision trees, gradient boosting, etc.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, VBA, Power BI, and some data platforms (Dataiku, Azure, Anaconda, or equivalent)
  • Resourceful and curious, continuously researching for new tools, techniques, and data sources  that may bring an edge to our trading strategies

  • Salary Range: $130,830 - $ 218,505, annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
