Accounting Manager- Construction

The fast-growing Distributed Solar business is searching for an experienced Accounting Manager to be an integral, hands-on leader collaborating with project teams, external partners, and internal departments. This individual is responsible for delivering timely and accurate reporting and analysis to management while being the bridge between operations and finance. This role will support a team of Senior Accountants and actively participate in the continued growth of Distributed Solar.
This position can sit in Houston, TX, or Overland Park KS / GBS Accounting and will report to the Accounting Director
What you’ll do:
- Lead and develop a team of Sr. Accountants and coordinate with our Shared Services Team
- Perform controllership functions for Development and Construction entities and assume additional entities as needed. Manage the accounting and financial reporting process, monthly and annual fiscal closing processes, review journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analysis
- Read various contracts related to customer and subcontractor construction, operations and maintenance, and partnerships identifying information that impacts accounting and financial statements Develop a general understanding and knowledge of these agreements
- Working knowledge of construction accounting including WIP schedule, percentage of completion revenue recognition, time and material contracts, customer and subcontractor retainage and lien waivers, and self-performed labor
- Working knowledge of capitalized assets under construction, CWIP schedule, capitalized development costs and associated P&L impacts
- Prepare financial statements and deliver internal management reporting
- Team with Treasury on cash management, debt payments, and ad hoc requests
- Develop a working knowledge of each business operation. Discuss financial results with Management and respond to inquiries. Review project performance and margin
- Ensure customer billings are processed accurately and timely each month
- Manage audit requests and deliver schedules by communicating regularly with internal and external audit teams
- Develop processes, drive continuous improvement, coordinate requirements upstream and downstream in the organization
- Perform ad-hoc projects as needed, including those which may involve complex or advanced accounting concepts. Coordinate communications with Operations, work with Technical Accounting on proper treatment, and implement the result in SAP
What you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- Minimum Seven (7)+ years' relevant experience required
- CPA or progress towards, preferred
- Construction accounting experience strongly preferred
- Experience with SAP a plus
- Strong accounting, analytics, and financial reporting skills
- Expertise in use of Microsoft Excel
- Tools used for the job primarily include Microsoft Office, SAP, Cartesis
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external parties
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Deadline driven and ability to plan ahead to ensure smooth close processes
- Strong-interpersonal skills and self-motivated
- Work in time sensitive environment; may be outside of usual US business hours

- Salary Range: $79,305-$202,540 annually
- Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
- In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus and incentive plan
